Overview

Inspector Lynley and Detective Sergeant Havers (Nathaniel Parker and Sharon Small), Elizabeth George’s crime-cracking duo from opposite sides of the track, are back in four intriguing new contemporary mysteries. The new series picks up where the last story ended -- with Havers shot in the line of duty, and Lynley estranged from his wife Helen. How will these traumas affect their ability to do their jobs? In Divine Proportion: In their first case since Havers was shot, Lynley and Havers investigate the shotgun murder of a young woman. As they unravel the dark secrets of a rural village, Lynley worries that the investigation will reopen old wounds for his partner. In the Guise of Death: A hanging near Lynley’s family estate draws Lynley and Havers into the world of horse breeding, and forces Lynley to consider his future: Is it with the police or the family business? The Seed of Cunning: A body found floating in the Thames leads Lynley and Havers from the lowest rungs of political life to the lofty corridors of power. Meanwhile, Havers goes to a singles night with the hope of finding a life outside of work. The Word of God: The discovery of a body frozen inside a meat truck leads Lynley and Havers into the world of struggling immigrants. As Lynley waits to hear about the fate of his marriage to Helen, another woman tries to lure him into an affair.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble
Based on Elizabeth George's bestselling novels, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries feature Nathaniel Parker as Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley and Sharon Small as Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers. Although they're partners, there's a strong sense of class conflict between the two cops: Lynley is a member of a rich and prominent family, while Havers hails from the lower rungs of the working-class ladder. The duo's social differences and occasional disagreements afford the tales an undercurrent that makes the series especially compelling. This volume collects the four episodes from Series 4 that aired in 2005. In the opener, "In Divine Proportion," Lynley and Havers investigate the shotgun murder of a young woman, their first case since Havers was shot in the line of duty. "In the Guise of Death" finds the partners looking into a hanging death on a horse farm. In "A Seed of Cunning" a body found floating in the Thames River sends Lynley and Havers on the trail of a perpetrator within the British government, while Havers attempts to leave work behind when she goes out to a singles' night. And in "The Word of God," Lynley and Havers investigate the shadowy world of immigrants after a body is discovered frozen inside a meat truck.

    Love stylish, sofisticated British mysteries

The Inspector Lynley Mysteries is a wonderful series of modern crime drama done with British sofistication and elegance. Nathaniel Parker and Sharon Small portray characters that we can certainly care about. It's also great to be able to buy the sets of DVDs for each season, instead of having to have to look for each episode individually!
