Jimi's Classic American Debut Caught on DVD is Excellent

This Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live at Monterey is a great DVD! It documents the "most important" concert of Jimi's career, according to this DVD. The guitar on fire image is a classic image, and this is the show that it came from.

This DVD starts out with over 20 minutes of documentary. About 10 minutes cover the early career of Jimi Hendrix up until this concert, the next 10 minutes explains the significance of this famous concert. Though Hendrix was unsigned and unknown less than 12 months before this show, he gained fast success after relocating to Britain. Jimi being the ultimate guitar virtuoso, he had rock stars like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones encouraging fans to see Hendrix play live as these superstars did themselves whenever Hendrix played London. But Hendrix was unknown in the USA, so he was eager to get some publicity at this high profile concert festival.

This DVD shows the entire 40 minute set by Hendrix, and it is pretty impressive still, over 40 years later. Jimi makes guitar playing look easy and effortless, but at the time of this concert, Hendrix was the pioneer of mastering loud guitar feedback and hystrionics, as well as just plain being an expert lead and rhythm guitarist.

If you want to see the birth of loud rock guitar playing, you might as well start hear!
