Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
Life is sweet for package delivery guy Doug Heffernan (Kevin James): His wife, Carrie (Leah Remini), is a doll, and he has basement paradise, complete with giant-screen TV, where he and his buddies Spence (Patton Oswalt), and Deacon (Victor Williams) can watch sports and drink beer. All that changes, however, when Carrie's widowed father, Arthur (Jerry Stiller), moves in. Now Doug's beloved television has been moved to the bedroom -- where the bed blocks half the screen -- and he has to put up with his father-in-law's eccentricities. Season 3 of the hit CBS sitcom continues the series' trademark formula: Doug does something dumb and tries to keep Carrie from finding out; she eventually does and gets mad; Doug works his lovable-oaf magic; and all is forgiven by the "Honey, you’re the greatest" finale. The on-again, off-again relationship of Deacon and Kelly (Alias's Merrin Dungey) is one of the story arcs that dominate the season, as is the strike by Doug's union at IPS. For instance, Doug impulsively buys a new SUV in "Strike One," despite his wife's warnings that the looming work stoppage might make paying for it difficult. In "Fatty McButterpants," Doug takes the notion of couples honesty too far when he tells Carrie she wears too much makeup. A flashback episode, "Dark Meet," recalls Arthur’s first meeting with Doug. "Wedding Presence," one of the year’s best, finds the couple trying to scheme their way out of going to a wedding that neither wants to attend. The year ends with the promise of a new baby for Doug and Carrie in the two-part "Pregnant Pause." Guest stars this season include Ricki Lake as Stephanie, Carrie's sister; quintessential TV mom Florence Henderson; the original Hulk, Lou Ferrigno; Malcolm in the Middle's Bryan Cranston; and Love Boat skipper Gavin MacLeod as Doug's Uncle Stu.

My husband and I have a bad habit of watching tv in bed before going to sleep and we always put on a KOQ disc! Great season, the earlier the better!
