Overview

Eddie Murphy reprises his roles as Sherman Klump and about seven other characters -- from Grandma Klump to young Ernie Klump -- in this irreverent follow-up to the 1996 original hit. Sherman is a scientist who has a serious self-esteem problem. In the original Nutty Professor, Sherman took an overdose of an experimental weight-loss formula that resulted in the creation of Buddy Love (also Murphy) - an egomaniacal version of Sherman whose foul mouth and testosterone-centered priorities did nothing to improve Sherman's love life. In the sequel, Sherman enlists the help of a beautiful scientist (Janet Jackson), whose DNA research may be Sherman's only hope of ejecting Buddy from his life forever. This uncensored, director's cut DVD edition is presented in widescreen format and includes uncensored outtakes, makeup and wardrobe tests, music videos by Sisqo and Jay-Z, a featurette on the making of the film, and the theatrical trailer.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - David Schneiderman
From the family barbeque sketch on his second album, Comedian, to the rollicking barbershop quartet of Coming to America, Eddie Murphy has always tested the boundaries of character creation. Now, in the second installment of the Nutty Professor, The Klumps, Murphy is finally given free rein, returning as Sherman Klump, as well as Sherman's supercool alter-ego Buddy Love, and the entire Klump family. Sherman discovers a Fountain-of-Youth serum, his bosses seek to exploit it, and Buddy Love wants to steal and sell it. All the while, Sherman courts Denise Gaines (Janet Jackson), and fends off his cacophonous family. But the story is secondary to the textured antics of Murphy breathing life into every one of his Klumps -- especially Sherman's parents. With Murphy -- as with the late Sir Alec Guinness in Kind Hearts and Coronets -- you constantly forget you are watching the same actor in multiple roles.
