Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Bruce Eder
The Langoliers is a little too ambitious for some of the players involved and, perhaps, its director. With a plot that is heavy on mysteries (some of them unanswerable) and, ultimately, explanation (of sorts), one would need a first-rate cast all the way through to pull this off -- and one player, in an absolutely essential role, is the weak link here. Additionally, the mini-series' fundamental shortcoming lies in its plot, which will remind one of at least a couple of Twilight Zone episodes, but really owes a lot to the Outer Limits story The Premonition, about a pilot and his wife who, through a freak accident, find themselves trapped outside of normal time; this production bears a relationship to that TV episode, similar to that of Twelve Monkeys to Le Jetee. The Stephen King short story that was the official source, and the screenplay, pile on a lot of character development and baggage, but not enough to carry this production for three-hours of screen time. Still, there are some good, chilling moments and scenes -- director Holland does get the most out of the scale of the production and most of the actors he has at his disposal.

An edge of your seat kinda movie

One of Kings finer movies. It includes a little bit of horror, supense, humor. It's does not go very deep into horror, but the element is there. There is constant suspense throughout the movie, with a slight twist in humor. A must see film

Best movie I've ever seen in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

This movie is very interesting and full of suspense. If you caught it on the Sci-Fi channel, it made it even more hanging, as you had to wait a whole other day to see the last half. The langoliers were enjoyably horrid-looking and also LOOKED as deadly as they were. I highly reccomend this movie!

    Langoliers

The movie DOESN'T suck! If some people would stop telling everything wrong wtih it, instead of anything right, it will not get a very good rating!

    This movie was riveting

I first saw it on TV after reading a description of it in TV Guide. I'd never heard of it before that. The whole concept of what happens in the past, or if the past actually exists is fascinating. This is a good movie.

    For ages 9-14 only

Three hours of tedium. Grossly flawed, largely because it's 90 minutes of material stretched to fill 180. Acceptable premise, fine cast, but the screenplay/dialog is stiff as is the direction with silly dramatic pauses between every line no matter how trivial. Poorly paced and choppy, ruining any possible suspense. Little action. Special effects are okay, what few there are. This is a film for 9-14 year olds. Anyone younger won't have the patience. Anyone older won't accept the misery.

    WHAT????

This was the worst acted, most ridiculous movie I have ever seen. You would be crazy to spend money to buy this film.

    Crapoliers!!!

I have not read the book, but i'm sure it has to be worlds better than this film. Stephen King is known for creating characters and stories that are twisted and scary. However, the twisted things in this movie don't do with the characters... The movie is one of the worst, most laughable things i have seen. No offense to the actors/actresses, but the character portrayal and believability was slim and poor. Cheesy lines like ''oooh, a nose hold'' and ''somebody's bridge work... I was afraid of that'' make the movie, unfortunately comical. I believe that the story is definitely creative and inriguing, but the movie ruined it

    Don't waste your time

Poor acting is rampant. The premise is ridiculous. Suspenseful? Hardly.

    Awesome!

This movie is very good. It sticks to the book almost scene for scene and it's acting is pretty good. However, I'm going to commend Bronson Pinchot on playing a very great Criag Toomey. The onyl thing that I would cut back on the

    Suspenseful and scary.

The Langoliers has a great premise: ten people awaken during their red-eye flight from L.A. to Boston only to discover that all the other passengers and the flight crew have disappeared. In true Stephen King style, we're given a thriller that works because it strives far more for intelligent story-telling than gory violence. It's smart, suspenseful and scary, entertaining, and completely engrossing. Highly recommended.
