Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
No screen actor on the current scene embodies indecisiveness quite like Zach Braff, the star of this smart and sassy cautionary tale for the Generation Y crowd. Approaching his 30th birthday, his character, Michael, becomes inexplicably apprehensive about his engagement to sober-sided longtime girlfriend Jenna (Jacinda Barrett.) Perhaps because he fears winding up like his married friends -- whom he perceives as henpecked -- Michael begins an affair with a free-spirited student (Rachel Bilson), fully aware that he’s playing with fire. The resulting complications, if comfortingly predictable, are given bite through the fine ensemble acting and clever writing by two-time Academy Award winner Paul Haggis. The DVD sports two very lively and playful commentaries: one with Braff and director Tony Goldwyn, and a second in which they are joined by several other cast members. Irreverent, insouciant, and definitely R-rated, these raucous gabfests may be more fun than the movie they accompany. The tone is set right away during the opening credits, when Goldwyn muses aloud, “Hey, there’s my credit,” and Braff snaps, “Oh, who cares?”

I wish this hadn't happen to me

This movie is depressing for me because I'm the pregnant girlfriend except It was my husband and I was pregnant with our second child. I'm writing this to let some people understand why they may have chosen lovable actors to play the worst parts. Because in real life it's not just the mean abusive no good men who are tempted to cheat and are confused about what they want. It's also the likable people and comedians, Because my husband was liked by most people and considered funny. So basically anyone can be Michael. My husband was approaching his 30s too. But his Kimmy was a co-worker with a boyfriend. She also liked to hang with the boys-my husband, his male friends and her boyfriend all hung out together at bars and clubs. My husband is partial to blame because even though he wanted a family he wanted to still go out like he was single. He felt as long as he told me everything that when on it was ok even if though I thought he did too much. He told me how she told him other girls did not like her and that my husband made her laugh. He told me she thought she wasn't attractive to men. I have noticed from another couple that had the same type of problem is It is not necessary the beautiful women who go after married men or boyfriends but the insecure girls who make them feel like they are the only men they can talk to and can be their friend. And the warning wife/girlfriend is the mean one picking on a poor insecure girl. Not realizing all women are a bit insecure but it's the ones who try to use it to their advantage are the real ones to beware of. But some men don't realized this till too late. My siutation isn't the same completely but close enough. I took my husband back because he said he was tempted but didn't and from the way he acted when I confronted him, I believe him. But sometimes I still doubt and 2 years later that incident has still strained our relationship. I get easily angry now, but I'm trying not be and most times I'm not. Mainly God has made me realize If I want to be forgiven for the past hurt I did to others "not my husband" I must forgive. I didn't give it 5 stars just because it's a real reflection of life, which isn't perfect no matter how much we want it to be.
