Overview

Robert Redford directed this adaptation of a novel by Steven Pressfield that uses golf as a metaphor for one man's spiritual and philosophical journeys. Rannulph Junuh Matt Damon was a gifted amateur golfer from Savannah, GA, until traumatic experiences during World War I shattered his confidence and sent him into a spiral of alcoholism. In 1931, Adele Invergordon Charlize Theron, a beautiful heiress who once loved Junuh, inherits a spectacular but financially ailing golf course after the suicide of her father. To attract customers, she proposed a high-stakes match between the two most famous golfers of the day, Bobby Jones Joel Gretsch and Walter Hagen Bruce McGill. Local businessmen sponsoring the match insist that a local golfer be added to the card, and Junuh is drafted for the position, but it soon becomes obvious that his game is just a shadow of its former glory. When things seem hopeless, a mysterious gentleman named Bagger Vance Will Smith volunteers to serve as Junuh's caddy and coach, using a mixture of ancient wisdom and past-life knowledge to help Junah "remember" the swing he's lost. Jack Lemmon narrates the story, and J. Michael Moncrief plays Lemmon's character as a boy.

    BEST MOVIE!

This is one of the all time best movies ever! Will Smith does such a wonderful job, and really shows off his talent--and the movie itself has such a great meaning: it reminded me that life is like a game of golf and can never be ''won''...if you play golf you will LOVE it if you don't, you will still love it!

Lets make a hole in one at '' The Masters '' in Augusta too !

Simply stated, this movie is truly one of a kind... In addition to capturing the essence of golf at the'' highest levels,'' the director of this movie did an excellent job in '' bringing to light '' the story of a person who faced adversity, yet pressed on to achieve the impossible! Rich in history, and beloved for the great people of the city & surrounding areas ..... Savannah Georgia was the perfect setting for this movie ! '' The Legend of Bagger Vance '' without question, is one of my favorite movies of all time. As a former sales executive based within the city limits of Savannah, it's easy for me to relate to the professionalism & class of '' All The People '' who supported their local golf player which is represented in this movie. The actors of this movie were remarkable! The ability of the director to recreate a '' moment in time '' from the early years of Golf, and portray '' The Legends '' which shaped the courses we play on today is incredible! In my opinion, this movie actually teaches & reminds all viewers that golf is in fact a sport which reflects class, & that it should be measured by '' The People '' who champion the fields, as well as '' All The Citizens '' who support the game! As the film progresses, the viewer will learn about the strategy of an intelligent caddy, & wealthy lady friend who's combined strengths transformed the confidence of a local golf player in Savannah, & transcended his talent to the '' highest levels '' of the golf tournament. '' The Legend of Bagger Vance '' is a premiere movie that illustrates the '' power of belief, '' & it stresses the '' importance of advice '' ( from his caddy & lady friend). This director & actors of this film did an outstanding job in creating the '' atmosphere '' of the people of Savannah, Georgia! From experience, I will state that all of the people in Savannah are supportive in government, business, & leisure ! There are beautiful golf courses in Savannah Georgia ... Some of which I have had the pleasure to traverse ! Please let me state that this movie was very accurate in the setting, as well as the '' climax............. '' The Legend of Bagger Vance '' in my book should receive eleven stars ! The citizens, & lady friend portrayed in this film are a true, & '' perfect reflection '' of society & government located on the '' ocean coasts '' of Savannah Georgia, & this movie gives insight to their history as well as other legends who played the courses & '' finished what they started! ''........... Personally, I am truly thankful that this movie was created. This film exemplifies the '' Diversity of People '', & it teaches us all what can be accomplished once '' Unified As A People ! ''
