Overview

Children escaping from the realities of war find themselves battling evil in an enchanted fantasy world in this made-for-TV drama. During the height of World War II, four children -- Peter (Richard Dempsey), Susan (Sophie Cook), Edmund (Jonathan Scott), and Lucy (Sophie Wilcox) -- are evacuated from London and find themselves staying in a small castle in the country owned by a mysterious professor (Michael Aldridge). While playing in the attic, the kids discover an old wardrobe, and when they walk inside, they're transported to the mythical land of Narnia. In Narnia, the wicked White Witch (Barbara Kellerman) has taken control, and now the nation is in a constant state of winter (and without any Christmas to make the snowy period tolerable). Guided by Aslan (voice of Ailsa Berk), a talking lion, the children set out on a crusade to defeat the White Witch and banish her from Narnia. The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe was the first of three films produced by the BBC based on C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia books; it was originally aired as a four-part mini-series.

I've loved these movies since I was a little kid. I basically wore the library copies out because I kept checking them out. These ones follow the books EXACTLY. If you actually want to experience a movie that comes from the books, watch these. The new ones don't even come close.

I like this movie because it is an allegory of the life and death of Jesus Christ.

I loved this story so much, it kept making me wan't to read it like it had a strong hold on me. The story has load's of creative plots where my faverioute plot is how lucy discovers Narina. And i think it teaches children about good and evil aswell. I was really pleased that my drama club decided to choose the lion the witch and the wardrobe last year, for the summer, because it was such a well known classic, unfrountely i wasn't lucy, but i was the mean house keeper Mrs Macready. I hope the story will live on in everyone's heart's. It will always be in mine.

This is absolutely brilliant. My family all love it. Myself and my sister used to watch it when we were children and it came on the TV, then we got the video and we still watch it at least 10 times a year - we are 18 and 16!!! It is one of those feel good movies that you will always love because it reminds you of everything you enjoyed as a child. It'll get to the point (as in my household) where you can reel off three consequtive scenes without having watched it for a month! I thoroughly recommend it.

I was given the whole series on vhs and I really enjoyed watching it! Even if you read the book before watching the movie, you won't be disappointed... in fact, you won't be disappointed if you haven't even read the book! It just makes you feel so surprised when the movie comes to life! It was also very thorough...

''Never shut yourself in a wardrobe, stupid.'' That is an excerpt from the many comical words of Peter. My whole family enjoys this movie. I first discovered it in fifth grade, when my mom rented it because we were reading the book in school. My little sister, four at the time, and I immediately fell in love with this movie. Our favorite character is Lucy; we even have shirts that say, ''I Love Lucy'' and wear them often. We can recite scenes from the movie out of sheer enjoyment. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to laugh, cry, dance, sing, or have fun.

I have read this book since i was very young and still enjoy it just as much as i did then and i am 22 years old now. I reccommend all teachers to try and teach this book. I am becoming a teacher and plan to teach, read and show the movie. I think every family would love it.

Personally, had it not been for one scene - the most important one in the entire film - I would have given it 1 star. There are a few things which prevent me from giving this film a rating consistent with the other reviewers. First, I thought the Special Effects were really bad, and a significant distraction to the flow (and message) of the film. I often shook my head in disbelief that I actually bought this. Second, the acting by certain characters was bad, and this caused another distraction with the same consequences as above. Finally, some of the things shown in the film are unbiblical from the perspective of New Testament Christianity. Now, here's my advice... Before deciding on the purchase of this film, check it out from (or through) your local library. It should be free, and it will allow you to decide for yourself whether you should purchase it or not.
