Teen queen Lizzie McGuire grows up a bit and hits the big screen in this comedy drama, based on the popular Disney Network series. Lizzie McGuire (Hilary Duff) and her best friends Kate (Ashlie Brillault), Gordo (Adam Lamberg), and Ethan (Clayton Snyder) have just graduated from middle school, and to celebrate, they're taking part in a class trip to Rome, Italy. Eager to celebrate their new maturity as high school students, Lizzie and her pals hope to live it up in one of Europe's most fabled cities, but fate has something more spectacular in store for Lizzie. Lizzie discovers that she bears a striking resemblance to Isabella, an Italian teen-pop idol famous for her duets with heart-throb Paolo (Yani Gellman) -- so much so that when Paolo and Isabella have a falling out, he asks Lizzie to take Isabella's place for an upcoming concert. Lizzie, however, isn't sure she feels comfortable stepping into the spotlight, and is even less sure about the way she feels about Paolo, who makes no secret of his infatuation with her. Things don't get any simpler for Lizzie when her family gets wind of her newfound fame, and catch the next flight to Italy. The Lizzie McGuire Movie also features Robert Carradine and Hallie Todd as Lizzie's parents, and Jake Thomas as her younger brother Matt, all of whom reprise their roles from the television series.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
During a school trip to Rome, junior-high misfit Lizzie McGuire (Hilary Duff) yearns for adventure. And, this being The Lizzie McGuire Movie, she finds it -- in the person of a teenage Italian pop idol (Yani Gellman) who grooms her to stand in for his missing partner, to whom Lizzie bears a striking resemblance. As Duff's hit song asks, "Why not?" Duff, basic cable's tween queen, shines in this spin-off of the Disney Channel series. Reality takes a vacation along with starry-eyed Lizzie (and her sardonic animated alter ego), who is persuaded to ditch her tour group led by the dreaded Miss Ubermeyer, who makes R. Lee Ermy's drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket look like Mr. Rogers. She is aided in her deception by Gordo (Adam Lamberg), whom we suspect nurses an unrequited crush on his lifelong platonic pal, and harassed by her nemesis, the stereotypical popular, um, witch Kate (Ashlie Brillault), who issues such withering put-downs as "Outfit repeater." To pad the film's 90 minutes, there are several sightseeing and trying-on-clothes montages. And whenever the movie needs a little "oops, I did it again" touch, director Jim Fall has the wide-eyed dizzy Miss Lizzie trip, awkwardly and adorably. Add the requisite out-of-it parents and nasty younger brother, and you have all the ingredients to make our irresistible heroine more empathetic. As Lizzie says at one point, "Some say juvenile, I say genius." Or as Howlin' Wolf put it, "The men don't know, but the little girls understand."

I have nothing against Hilary Duff personally; she's a great actress, but I can't stand the character Lizzie! She's such a whiny, ditzy little b*%(# who's too dense to see what a perfect life she has! She's gorgeous and has great friends, a great family, EVERYTHING! And yet she in the trailer she says ''Nothing ever seems to go my way''! Does that make sense?! So she's kinda unpopular at school and gets bullied by snobs, BOO-HOO! ''Doesn't she have anything better to do than make my life miserable?!'' Er, hello! With the way she treats Matt, she should be able to take care of Kate! What, is she a just a big chicken or something?! Why is popularity so important!? Kate's like, the only bad thing in Lizzie's life! Doesn't she know how to appreciate what she has!? Instead she focuses on what she DOESN'T have! Why would she wish to become famous (or something of the sort)?! If I were her, I wouldn't have a wish to make in that fountain thingy. Anyone without a brain should be able to see what a perfect life she has, goddang it! What a bimbo. All she does is WHINE! And she's so superficial. She is the complete opposite of a role model. The movie Holes, on the other hand, teaches the values of friendship, hard work, persistance, determination, etc. and shows how the main character goes from wimpy and timid to strong, confident and assertive. Now that's a role model for you. The character development shows that anyone who feels weak or inferior could really achieve a lot if they toughen up. And yet the horrible Lizzie McGuire Movie gets like twenty times more credit from what I've seen! The plot of Holes is very inventive and facinating and keeps you thinking, and has a great message, not to mention the most lovable characters you could imagine. The plot of Lizzie Mcguire is totally cornball! It sounds like a completely unrealistic fairy tale like Cinderella or something! One commercial for it says cheesy stuff like ''find out what dreams are made of'' or something like that. How often has THAT line been used in those corny, tear-jerking Diseny movies?! Holes is a crazy-good movie but sadly underappreciated while the Lizzie Mcguire Movie gets all the credit it doesn't deserve. I ask you, is that fair? What IS it with Disney these days!? Parents, keep your kids AWAY from Lizzie McGuire! It's the most deranged TV show/movie ever.

it was a very carefree movie for tweens, tho if you have an older sibling they WON'T reccomend it- they think its too childish, although i think deep down they really enjoyed it. i went with a cousin to see it [my cousin is 16] and she still liked it just as much as i did [i'm 11]. though i thinnk its a bit unappropriate for little children for there is quite a bit of midriff showing on Hilary Duff's part. i give it **********[10] stars!!!

My daughter and I saw this movie together because we both love the series and we were not disappointed. It was a cute, funny, and touching movie. It definatly shows girls that they can do anything (with a little help from their friends and family). All girls will be uplifted by this movie. We LOVED it and can't wait to add it to our collection.

Hilary Duff ''falls'' into the part of teenage Lizzie McGuire, and shines. As Lizzie embarks on her journey with her friends to Rome, the clumbsy , girl from next door, is mistaken for international pop star Isabella from the duo ''Paulo and Isabella''. Lizzie has fun for a while but then when she is forced to choose between her life or Isabella's. What should she do?

I actually like the Lizzie McGuire shows, so when I saw this movie I was very disappointed. First of all where is Miranda? It would have been better with Lizzie's best friend. The story was predictable and unbelievable. I mean who exactly has someone that looks just like them and just happens to be a pop star?! I found it very disappointing when Lizzie didn't believe her best friend and instead trusted a boy she had only known for a week at the most. I was happy when she finally trusted her best friend instead of that guy. The only good thing about this movie is when she sings at the end.

I like the Lizzie McGuire show but the movie made me mad!!!! Lizzie is always saying stuff like ' nothing special ever happens to me'. Well gee, in one episode she met Aaron Carter & in another she dated Frankie Muinez. If she can't realize how perfect her life is then she has BIG problems.
Guest More than 1 year ago
This movie is horrible because they address the problem ten minutes before it ends. I would have also seem more of Lizzie and Gordo together since that's what people always talk about when they mention the show. This was a BIG let down.
