As the pendulum swings between fearful images and moments of comic relief, the mysterious Mr. Vogler defies analysis. In 1959, Ansiktet was given the "Best Film" prize at the British Academy Awards, the "Best Foreign Film" prize at the New York Film Critics Awards, and two prizes at the Venice Film Festival.

    Great Movie and Restoration

This movie is a classic Bergman film. Filled with symbolism and a wonderfully well written plot. The Restoration represents that of Criterion's high standards and doesn't disappoint. However, the supplemental material is on the lesser side with only a couple interviews that spotlight the movie. It's a great addition to a Bergman collection despite it's lack of supplemental material the movie stands on it's own. Highly Recommended.
