The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Overview

Disney's lovable, huggable bear is back in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Presented in a 1.33:1 full frame presentation, this transfer appears to be a solid effort featuring dark black levels and bright animated colors. Aside of a small amount of grain in the image (which is very minimal), this is a striking reproduction of the original film. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English, French, and Spanish. While there are a few directional effects to be found in this mix, ...

While there are a few directional effects to be found in this mix, overall the sound field is focused only in the front and center speakers. Also included on this disc are English subtitles. The extra features should give DVD fans a nice adventure themselves. Starting off the disc is the animated short Winnie the Pooh and a Day for Eyore which is cute and should please small children. The 25-minute featurette "Story Behind the Masterpiece" is a look at the origins of the original characters. For the kids, there are a bundle of extra features, including a fun narrated game titled "Hundred-Acre Wood Challenge," a cute music video by Carly Simon, a Disney story called "Pooh's Shadow," and the Disney songbook title "The Wonderful Thing about Tiggers." Finally there are some fun pop-up facts about the film, an art gallery (still and video), and some sneak peeks at other Winnie the Pooh features and DVDs.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Sweet! It is hard to imagine a more delightful video introduction to A. A. Milne's cherished Winnie the Pooh books than this 1977 anthology, which gathered the Disney studio's original trio of animated featurettes: Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966), the Oscar-winning Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968), and Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Too (1974). Pooh was a pet project of Walt Disney, whose children loved the books about the "willy nilly silly old bear" and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood. Faithful to the look and gentle spirit of the books, these mellow shorts do Milne proud. With the voices of Sterling Holloway as Pooh, Paul Winchell as Tigger, and John Fiedler as Piglet, the delightful characters come to life. The DVD edition includes a honey jar full of additional special features, including interactive sing-alongs and various activities. A welcome addition to any family library, these Many Adventures will captivate children for generations to come.
