Overview

This Friendship Edition is a honey-sweet upgrade over previous VHS and DVD incarnations of this 1977 feature-length anthology of the Disney studio's original trio of animated (#Winnie the Pooh) featurettes. First, and best, is Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966) that introduced a generation of American children to A.A. Milne's "wonderful world of make believe" and his delightful stories about "willy nilly silly old bear," Winnie the Pooh and his animal friends in the Hundred Acre Wood. The Oscar-winning Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968) gets a lot of bounce from Tigger, who makes his exuberant screen debut. Last, and least, is Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Too (1974). It is nigh impossible now to read Milne's stories and not hear the indelible voices of Sterling Holloway as Pooh, John Fiedler as Piglet and Paul Winchell as Tigger. These whimsical shorts are faithful to the look and gentle spirit of Milne's stories. They exquisitely convey the simple and innocent joys of childhood. Generous new-to-DVD bonus features include the entertaining The Story Behind the Masterpiece, which charts the development of what was one of Walt Disney's pet projets, with interviews by the animators, voice talent and the songwriting Sherman brothers. Also included is A Day for Eeyore (1983) and the pilot episode for the unfortunately computer-animated new Disney Channel series, My Friends Tigger & Pooh, which just makes one appreciate the old school charms of the original shorts all the more.

My daughter adores Winnie-the-Pooh so I bought this for her third birthday. She enjoys watching it and I do too. I remember watching these when I was little.

This DVD contains a number of Pooh stories, but we usually just watch the first couple. They are innocent and clever, with some pretty addictive tunes. Enjoyable for all ages!
