Overview

A woman struggles to rebuild her life after a devastating accident in this drama based on the true story of Jill Kinmont. Kinmont (played by Marilyn Hassett) was a top ranked amateur downhill skier who seemed assured of a place on the 1956 Olympic team. But while racing in Utah's Snow Cup competition, Kinmont suffered a serious fall from a mountain that left her paralyzed from the shoulders down. Kinmont became severely depressed; her career as an athlete was over, and her fiancée, who couldn't deal with the emotional toll of her accident, left her. But when she met pilot Dick Buek (Beau Bridges), she found both love and a new inspiration to make a career for herself as a teacher. But Kinmont discovered she still had more mountains to climb when Buek died in the crash of a small plane. Marilyn Hassett won a Golden Globe award for her performance as Jill Kinmont, and she reprised the role in a sequel two years later.

This is an exceptionally moving film based upon the life of Jill Kinmount. It is the 1950's and Jill is a main contentor for the US skiing team. During trial runs she takes a chance that normally she would not have however she needed the few seconds as her main competition was doing very  well. During her next run she hit ice, lost control and went over a cliff. She was paralyzed from the neck down. The film goes on to tell part of her life's story, this focus on the recovery and rehab and some major life events. It is a well done film that simply moves you as life throws more curves at her. As I watched her overcome everything and anything she could I fell in love with this film. I have given some as gifts and they tell me they feel the same as I do Whenever life seems hard I get  this out and watch it and somehow life isn't so hard for me anymore and I am disabled. If you want a movie that will capture you forever and that will continue each time you watch it, I assure you.
