This movie starts out as a classic ghost story in a house where the characters begin to hear noises and have experiences with strange ghostly characters. The ending was the greatest twist in a movie. AND, I never saw it coming!

i think i watched this movie first when i six, and i didn't understand it, and my 9 cuz had to explain it with gum balls i still remember she had white gum balls in one hand and pink in the other " See the white gum ball were the people you thought were alive, but the pink gumball were the really ones alive" i laugh everytime. But it is a best movie yah gotta see. Also has anyone saw that Nicole Kidman seems to play a evil mother roll fairly GREAT! like the others and the golden compass...just me sayin'.

This movie starts out as a classic american ghost story in a house where the characters begin to hear noises and have experiences within to becoming the movie with the most incredible ending. Has to be without a doubt the best twist in movie history and I never saw it coming. Awesome!

An excellent movie that is underrated. Great plot twist. The cast is also great- especially the children. - Noga Delshad

I saw this movie in the movie theatre and I was interested through out the ENTIRE movie. The ending of this movie was SO AMAZING that my husband and myself were both totally shocked by the way that this movie ended. I highly reccommend this movie to folks who like twist endings.

I was really looking foward to this movie but when I finally viewed it, the experience of it just fell flat. I didn't like the story much and the plot, although original, is not seamless so viewers don't have much of an opportunity to figure things out for themselves. There was no scarefest at all- no entertainment so like I wrote before, this was very flat. I personally didn't think Kidman was that good in the film-I have liked her work in other films better than this one. Worst point...the viewer doesn't get a chance to participate in the experience-no imagining, no pondering Best point...solid acting for the most part by the girl who played the daughter and also the actress who played the housekeeper.

HEY! This movie was great. Fantastic. Out-of-the-box [thinking &] thriller! This had me at the edge of my seat the whole way there, I mean, to the ending. Heck, I watched this when I was eight and I loved it ever since. This movie's premise is about Hollywood superstar Nicole Kidman and three kids living in a remote and isolated mansion in a war, waiting for their father [or, in Nicole's case, husband] to come home, when the staff of servants disappear, they hire strange, secondary helpers until they turn up. But then strange, ghost-like things start happening. Recommended to everyone eight and up!

If you love suspense movies, you have to see “The Others”. Throughout the movie the suspense slowly heightens, which kept me on my toes during the entire movie. From the beginning, you can tell the “The Others” has everything a classic suspense story needs. Nicole Kidman plays a woman who is living alone in a desolate English mansion with her two ailing children while her husband is off at war. Without a man to help around the house, Kidman’s character “Grace” welcomes the help of three strangers who claim to have lived in the house years before. After the three strangers move in and begin their housework, Grace strange and eerie noises in the house. Grace believes these noises to be coming from ghosts in the house. But are these noises proof that the house is haunted or is Grace crazy? You’ll have to rent “The Others” or buy it to find out. Personally, I enjoyed the book for its suspense. The way the plotline developed, constantly changing my perceptions was incredible. This movie is one of the best suspense stories I have ever seen. It included everything that you expect to find in a great suspense movie, including, a woman living alone with her children, an old mansion, and creepy, inexplicable noises coming from the house. Despite having all the usual ingredients of a great suspense, the story takes a unique spin at the end, which really captivated me. I recommend renting this movie on a cool, dreary night when you can wrap up in a blanket and appreciate the suspense.

It's been over a year since I saw this movie, but it's still vivid in my mind. Kidman and the kids are great, and the story is told slowly and suspensefully [ a dirty word in today's movies]. For those who like story and characters above special effects, this is the movie for you. It's a pity it's been put into the "horror" genre slot, as it is much more masterful and thoughtful than most horror.

AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME! Very cool plot, and a series of twists and turns that kept me guessing. Don't believe the bad reviews. This was a worthwhile film. Truthfully, I am rarely impressed with the genre of horror (and suspense), but this was an absolutely clever movie and I highly suggest it!

brilliantly talented from brilliant actors, inc. Nicole Kidman, but like Orson Scott Card said (though he's a writer of Ender's Game), ''heartbreaking moment with no meaningful purpose.'' In other words, ghosts touch things by anything and get reflected by mirrors. IMDB.com rated this movie 7.8. 7.8!? Ha! No offense, but I don't know why most moviegoes (or I'd say critics) like ''powerfully'' art movies that don't sense a pointless story like I do (ex: Citizen Kane, American Beauty, 6th Sense, etc.). I'm neither a ghost, art, nor sci-fi movie fan. But here's my recommendation: want a good ghost movie, rent ''Ghost (1990)''. Want a good art, rent ''Fargo''. Want a good thrill, rent ''At Close Range''.

Yes, this is a good thriller. Since the house has to be dark, it adds an air of mystery. You don't know what's behind that curtain, or in that shadow. The only dissapointing part of this movie is that you can guess the ending before you see it. Well, I did.

It was entertaining. A good plot, and very suspenceful. And Nicole Kidman was perfect for the part as the mother. But to put it in short words, A Bore. It's slow paced, and not at all scary. But it is something good to watch if you just want to watch something suspenceful, and interesting. I give it 3 stars.
