At a summer camp in Maine, 11-year-old Hallie Parker Lindsay Lohan meets Annie James also Lindsay Lohan. Despite a curious resemblance, Hallie develops an immediate dislike for Annie, and the feeling is mutual. However, the two eventually discover they are twin sisters separated not long after they were born. Their parents, Elizabeth Natasha Richardson and Nick Dennis Quaid, had met on the Queen Elizabeth 2 and married on that same voyage. After a divorce, Nick brought up Hallie at his Napa Valley vineyard, while Annie lived with wedding-gown designer Elizabeth in London. Neither twin was aware she had a sister, until their summer-camp meeting. To learn more about their parents, they switch places and maintain the deception until Nick states he will remarry. The twins then try to engineer a renewed romance between Nick and Elizabeth, but Nick's annoying but attractive fiancee Meredith Elaine Hendrix presents a major problem in reaching their happy-ending goal. Hayley Mills portrayed the twins in the 1961 original and subsequent TV-movie sequels: In The Parent Trap II 1986, the twins are adults with their own romantic problems. In The Parent Trap III 1989, the twins compete for a widower Barry Bostwick, the father of triplets, and that same year, the twins also returned in Parent Trap Hawaiian Honeymoon 1989.

Disney's original Parent Trap was a small but successful comedy that cleverly toyed with split-screen effects and launched the career of actress Hayley Mills. The 1998 version utilizes a strikingly similar story line, attempting to rearrange the puzzle pieces in a much more slick and stylish package. The film is refashioned by director Nancy Meyers and producer Charles Shyer, the dynamic duo responsible for Private Benjamin and the hilarious 1991 remake of Father of the Bride; unfortunately, this effort isn't nearly as engaging as their past ones. The remake of the Parent Trap is another example of Disney self-cannibalization for profit, but this updated film doesn't break any new and exciting ground. While budding young actress Lindsay Lohan gives an energetic performance and the split-screen "twin" effects are seamless, she uses an unconvincing British accent and fails to make Hallie and Annie seem like two different people. The Parent Trap does have sporadically amusing moments, however, most notably a farcical sequence in a hotel lobby. Meyers and Shyer are two filmmakers that specialize in warm-hearted domestic comedies, and although this Disney retread may be grating on adults, it is still a mildly entertaining family picture that will entertain young audiences.

    THIS IS A MUST SEE!!

    I love this movie and I find it hilarious as to see the little sweetheart Lindsey Lohan to how grown up she is now..But really it's a funny and entartaining movie.Def. a must see!!!

    Crosses Generations

    This movie will never grow old. Yes, it's funny and cute, but it also addresses the feelings and dreams of a lot of kids over generations whose parents divorce - twins or not. When the original came out in the early 60's, I watched it because I had the hots for Haley Mills since we are about the same age. Now, I can really relate it to the kids I met and taught over the past 35 years. Kids of divorce parents over generations can relate - and the fantasy happy ending is what most of them dream of. A little fantasy is good for everyone!! A great film.

    The best movie ever!!!!

    Although I will have other favorites, they will eventually get old. Other movies will come and go but this movie will last forever. I Love this movie!!!

    def. a classic

    this movie will never get old for me. it is definatly one of the best movies! it is so funny and charming. i practically know every line, i watched it sooo many times!! this is such a classic!

    Great for Family Movie Night!

    My family has watched both the 1961 original and this one and enjoy them both. Our favorite, though, is definitely this remake. My 8-yr old loves it and the rest of the family does too! It's great for settling in together with a bowl of popcorn for family movie night! Enjoy!

    excellent

    I thought that the parent trap movie re-make was excellent with Dennis Quaid Natasha Richardson and Lindsey Lohan. The movie is the best that Walt Disney ever made.

    Beautiful

    I haven't seen the original, but this new version hits the sweet spot for me! It's charming, funny, and endearing. Worthy of anyone's collection.

    ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL

    my three children and i absolutely love this film, we watched it so many times and just loved it every time we saw it - i think it must be their all time favourite. i have twin daughters of 12 and a son of 9. unfortunately we recently had a burglary and the burglers stole the video machine with The Parent Trap video in it, so i am now trying to get another copy.

    rip off

    this is the dumbest rip off of the old verison and never should have been made. It should sink like the titanic!!!

    this was great!

    I think that this movie was really good. I saw the first one that was made in the 60's as well and this version was much better and more interesting. Definately worth seeing!

    THE GREATEST MOVIE-Trust me

    The rare remake that STANDS ABOVE the original!

    This movie is nothing short of awesome. Two twin sisters, seperated at birth, meet at camp, with the idea to switch places and reunite their parents. But it looks like Dad has a girlfriend. Can the girls break it up, or will their dream never come true? I was amazed at how much better the remake is than the original.
