The Party

( 10 )

Overview

A rare non-Pink Panther collaboration between director Blake Edwards and actor Peter Sellers, this very 1960s comedy gets an attractive but simple release on DVD. The Party has been given a letterboxed transfer to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1, which has also been enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16 x 9 monitors. The transfer is sharp and clean-looking, and makes the most of the movie's candy-colored visual style. The film's audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Mono; in addition to the ...

The movie's original trailer is the only bonus on this package, which does well by the film but doesn't add much to the proceedings.

    Peter Sellers "The Party"

I remember seeing this movie when I was just a kid. The movie was just as funny then as it is now. You can see how hard they tried to make Peter Sellers look Indian. And of course Peter Sellers does a good job playing the part. This movie is hilarious and it will always be one of my favorites.

Is this the funniest movie ever made?

Well, this is certainly the FUNNIEST movie I have ever seen, no kidding. I have the DVD and have played it for every houseguest I have had.... maybe a dozen times now... and they all love it. Now I gotta tell you that I am a huge movie fan... and though I adore Laurel and Hardy classics, Harold Lloyd and more slapstick greats, THIS movie is unreal in that every scene is timed perfectly and does it with sophistication. BUY this one because you will continue to notice jokes in the background and expressions on the other actors faces. The lines are totally classic... 'birdie num nums' and 'howdee pardener'! Ya gotta see it to see what I mean. Today's comedies rely mainly on shock value (cussing, body noises and insults to other characters)... and in time those comedies just become more and more expected and unfunny..... THIS movie will still be funny 100 years from now..... and remain a true classic. I think its Peter Sellers best movie hands down.

    Slapstick at its best

This is one of the funniest films ever made. I laugh so hard I end up crying each time I watch it.

    The funniest movie ever???

I was too young to see ''The Party'' in theaters, but my older brother and dad were always talking about it and how it made them cry from laughing so hard. I finally saw it some years later and laughed to tears as well. Be aware that this contains slapstick (and pantomime) at its best. Sellers' Indian accent has become stereotyped over the years, but it works so well here. He destroys the party and the producer's home by accident. Great work by Pink Panter director Blake Edwards who must be considered one of Hollywood's top comic directors.

    BIRDY NUM NUMS

Peter Sellers shows up in a movie set in Gunda Din style sets with his Timex on...I started to laff but when he needed to tie his show I was hysterical...from Birdy num nums to Hey pardener to the toilet paper roll...I was rolling in the aisles. I laffed so hard my stomach ached and the tears flowed...that was back in the 60s...its still the funniest movie I ever saw....Sellers as a man from India was perfectly cast. YOU MUST OWN THIS MOVIE.

    What a Party!

Peter Sellers is at his all time best when he stars as a clumsy Indian actor who is accidently invited to a ''rich people's'' party. Of course, not unlike his role in the ''Pink Panther'', he reaks havic once more in his inocent and hillarious way. You will be laughing untill you cry for this wonderfull yet crazy movie!

    Biride Numnum

I first saw this film when it was first released. I was a young child at the time and I remember laughing so much that I was sick in the cinema. Many years later I saw it scheduled on UK TV and phoned everyone I knew to come around to watch it as well. Everyone agreed with me. I still laugh just thinking about it.

The Ultimate Party with the Ultimate Guest

What better person to attend your extravagant party....or is it? Peter Sellers is at his best here as an Indian Actor who is clearly in the wrong place, but takes full advantage of it. There isn't 2 minutes that go by without a reason to laugh, if not cry! From start to finish, his comic genious is in full display.

60's Cocktail Potty Humor At It's Best

If you love Austin Powers and the whole ''retro'' time warp -- you will scream watching this one. Peter Sellers is at his Pink Pantheresque best.
