Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Jeremy Wheeler
Filled with brilliant lunacy and over-the-top comedic flourishes, The Pink Panther Strikes Again delivers the absurd goods for which the series is known. Played even broader than its predecessors, Strikes Again finds Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers) in the super-spy role pitted against his incredibly evil nemesis Dreyfus (Herbert Lom. In one wacky moment after the next, Sellers throws subtlety out the window to match the film's exaggerated tone -- a tactic well-suited for delivering even more immediate laughs from the bumbling hero. The slo-mo kung fu scene is unbelievably funny, as are the moments in the interrogation scene, which border on Clouseau's best. As far as the supporting cast, Lom hams it up in his wide-eyed Bond villain role, while Lesley-Anne Down makes the screen sizzle every time her Russian minx character appears. With a cartoon-like bouncy feel to it, The Pink Panther Strikes Again is the perfect idiocy for the slapstick soul.

Pink Panther Series was Peter Sellers best work. The beginning

Pink Panther Series was Peter Sellers best work.

The beginning alone is a comedic work of art. Dreyfus had made such progress, he was soon to be released from the sanitarium. Then Clouseau dropped by.

In a very short time Dreyfus was knocked into a pond 4 times, hit on the head with a crokay ball, stepped on a rake, learned Clouseau was considering running for the public office, not to mention the shock of actually seeing Clouseau. Dreyfus endured all that without loosing it. He was hanging by a thread, but was still holding on. Then he was shot in the head with a suction cup arrow, by another crazy man. That was it, complete relapse. He didn't even bother removing the arrow. Next seen he chasing Clouseau , and just yelling "Kill, Kill, Kill".

After he escapes Dreyfus proceeds to gather the worlds best criminals, and organized them into an international terrorist organization. Used them to build a Doomsday device - a ray device. He used the ray to blackmail the entire planet. Dreyfus claimed that compared to Clouseau, the Doomsday Device was just a water pistol.

The October Festival was a riot. Assassins were killing each other left and right - some deliberately others by accident. Clouseau was oblivious to each death, and each attempt at killing him.

When Clouseau found the castle Dreyfus was hiding in he kept falling in the Moat trying to reach the castle. Finally he got in by impersonating a dentist, who was called to treat Dreyfus. The laughing gas scene is hilarious beyond words.

Finally Clouseau proved Dreyfus right. Dreyfus's weapon, the castle, and his own assassins were nothing compared to the destructive capacity of Clouseau's mindless incompetance. Clouseau destroyed it all.

THIS IS CLASSIC SELLERS - YOU CAN'T FIND FUNNIER THAN THIS!!!!

I feel this is pure escapism comedy by a master comic. The comics today should learn from a man who didn't need profanity in order to be funny. He relied only on his ability to act and assume the character of ''Closeau'', the bumbling detective, and nemesis of his former boss Dreyfuss. In my opinion this is the funniest of the ''Pink Panther' series. I would give this movie 3 1/2 stars out of 4 stars on just how much I enjoy it 27 years after the first time that I saw this. The jokes are still fresh and the sight gags still work. What more can you ask?
