    Reimagining of a Classic Series

"The Prisoner" - that is the original series produced in the sixties - is considered a classic series; with some arguing that it is the greatest TV show ever; so it is a natural that the show would be remade at some point. And here it is...

The mostly stellar cast stars Jim Cavaziel as Number Six and Ian McKellan as Number Two. The performances are strong and the show is pretty engaging... well, until the end. The ending sabotages the whole series, while compromising everything that Six stands for. The ending also leaves the viewer feeling cheated. I certainly felt that it was a cop out. However, that being said, the remaining episodes are excellent and atmospheric, with a genuine sense of mystery and dread. You honestly want to see how this plays out; until the disappointment that is the ending.

Originally produced as a six-part mini-series shown over 3 nights on AMC; Warner Bros. releases all six parts on a 3 disc DVD set with several extras. The picture quality is above average; the sound is very good; and the extras are mostly entertaining. If you enjoyed the series, you should not be disappointed by this DVD release.

This "Prisoner" may not ever be the classsic that the original is, but it's enjoyable in it's own right. If not for the complete let down of the ending; this series would rate much higher (episodes 1-5 rate around 4 stars, while episode 6 rates around 1.25 stars).

    DO NOT WATCH!!!

If you are a fan of the 60's tv show, DO NOT BUY THIS DVD!!!. Wish I had not wasted 6 hours of my life watching this worthless tv miniseries. Horrible plot, bad acting and just plain confusing (which is saying alot considering the original source).

Spend your money on the bluray of the original. You'll be happy.

    Be Seeing you!
