I saw this movie when it first aired on HBO in the 80s. At the time, I'd never seen anything with Sam Elliott (yes, I missed out on "Lifeguard") but was instantly in love! Granted, the man as an actor tends to play it safe and stick to the same type character, emoting the same way no matter what part he plays. That being said, Sam just melts my buttery heart in this role as a lovable scoundrel yet savior. The sidelong way he looks at Kate Capshaw speaks volumes, and his lithe swagger and low, gravely voice make him one of the sexiest actors ever. (I love to listen to Dodge Ram commercials just to hear him speak!) Plus Sam can act while riding a horse, shooting, etc.--all that good cowboy stuff. Kate Capshaw and Tom Conti are very good in their respective roles too. The story is basic yet exciting, with flashes of humor and romance. Even if you're not much for westerns, this movie is definitely worth adding to your collection!

I've seen this movie a number of times and still love it. There's just enough friction between the characters to keep you guessing as to what will happen between them.

I watched this movie on DVD and the family and I really liked it. Recommended.
