The RingDirector: Gore Verbinski
A disturbing videotape appears to hold the power of life and death over those who view it in this offbeat thriller. A strange videotape begins making the rounds in a town in the Pacific Northwest; it is full of bizarre and haunting images, and after watching it, many viewers receive a telephone call in which they are warned they will die in seven days. A handful of teenagers who watched the tape while spending a weekend at a cabin in the mountains scoff at the threat, but as predicted, they all die suddenly on the same night. Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts), the aunt of one of the ill-fated teens, is a journalist who has decided to investigate the matter and travels West with her young son, Aidan (David Dorfman), a troubled child who has been drawing pictures of strange and ominous visions. Rachel managed to find the cabin in the woods and watches the video herself; afterward, she receives the same phone call, and realizes she must solve the puzzle of the video and the person or persons behind it within a week. Rachel turns to her ex, Noah (Martin Henderson), an expert in video technology, who at first is convinced the story is a hoax until he digs deeper into the mystery. The Ring was adapted from a 1996 Japanese film by Hideo Nakata, which became a massive box-office success in Asia and spawned two sequels.

This movie scared me. i want to know who played the little girl Samara, and where the heck did that name come from? how did they make it look like she came up out of the well, and how did she crawl out of the TV? if you know anything about the special effects on the movie, let me know, please.
Do not let anyone tell you this is not a scary movie, it was so incredibly spooky i COULD NOT fall asleep the night I watched it. Don't take my word go get it yourself.
Subtle and horrifying. don't expect the typical teen horror flick. It scared the dark brown substance out of me. Now I have no more dark brown substance in me (I would have used the word PARC, spelled backwards, but this site tells me it's a dirty word. Where, Candyland?). Seven days after watching this movie I died.
`The Ring¿, produced by Gore Verbinski, is an adaptation of the classic Japanese horror film `Ring¿ and this westernised version keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end with plenty of twists and turns and nail biting terror as the fast paced plot takes it audience to the depths of horror and back. Immediately we are sucked into the world of female journalist Rachel Keller, who discovers a disturbing videotape with bizarre images and an even more bizarre history. Everyone who watches this disturbing tape dies seven days later after receiving an anonymous phone call sealing their fate. Rachel, with the help of her ex, desperately searches for the truth behind the tape as time runs out for her and her son. Will she make it? Well you¿ll just have to wait and see. Gore Verbinski manages to capture the sheer terror and nail biting tension of the original version and recreate it exceedingly well. Despite the lack of gore and limited use of carnage, this film works really well as it doesn¿t conform to may traditional horror films-there¿s no semi naked woman running straight into the killers trap (sorry lads) and there is no bumbled police investigation to complicate matters, its just pure horror that gets your imagination working overtime. Immediately you are sucked in and not released until the final credits, and even then you find yourself unable to move from your seat from the sheer punch this movie packs. This film doesn¿t give the audience chance to pause, and I recommend you watch this with an empty bladder and a large pillow to hide behind, prepare to be scared...........to death.
This was the best horror flick of 2003! It keeps you at the edge of your seat. Good plot, great effects. What else could you ask for. Definitely a MUST SEE!!!!
For a movie hailed as the scariest movie ever made, The Ring fails miserably. This is a very *eerie* movie, but it is by no means scary. Some of the plot holes can be filled in by watching the movie a couple of times. One thing that may not be obvious in the first viewing is how the tape was created, but if you piece the clues together, it's readily apparent. The movie is worth a single viewing if you've been curious about it. It *is* interesting to watch the heroine piece together the various bits of imagery from the deadly tape. But, in the end, this is simply not a scary movie. If you're like me, and found The Sixth Sense to be predictable and utterly uninspiring, The Ring is not worth your time.
"i don't make them, i see them and they just...are" (for those of you who have seen this movie, you know what i mean) oh my god i love this movie. it's so suspensful and really scary. I saw alone at night and i couldn't look at the tv for week. if you haven't seen this movie, rent it
I was truly impressed with this movie that was smart as well as terrifying. It has great atmosphere and it has a spooky quality all the way through. It also has the scariest ending sequence I have ever seen. Its really refreshing to see a great scary movie without all of the mindless blood and guts.
The ring was one of my favorite movies of all time it kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time the ending has to be the best ending for a movie i seen i recommed it to everyone
Before you die,you see the Ring.Yes,The Ring is my all time favorite movie. The story is just great and the suspense is awesome.Or,maybe I just like it cause my name's Samara,I don't know!Anyway buy it. You'll love it!!!
It's been a long time since I've been freaked out in a movie. The beginning was a bit hoaky, but when it really got into the plot, I was hooked. I still can't get the images out of my head....
Why was it a WOMAN who crawled out of the TV at the end and NOT the little girl? anyone know this? I really want to know.
One of the best horror movie i've seen in a long while.
This is a really great movie! It scared me to death :( And the phone ringing just as the credits started didn't help either. Anyway, it was amazing :) Loved the suspense and the story. I think the second one was better though
I've heard time and time again that his movie was very scary. I bought it for myself in the expectation of a quite, scary evening. Sadly, the evening was more quiet than scary. Scary? I found it a bit entertaining but not scary nor disturbing. Viewer, beware.
This is the best example I know of for getting the DVD of a movie. The extra scenes are terrific. They should have been in the relased version, but I guess I was not the expert. Yes, this is one scary movie. This is the kind of movie you keep one eye closed and the other just open enough to close quickly if you need to. Yup, you will be thinking about this one for a long time after you turn off your TV.
this is a great movie that you dont want to miss out on seeing. this movie keeps you on the edge of seat the whole time. its plot is unforgetable, and the movie itself is one you will never forget. it holds you attention from the very first scene to the last. the images in it you will never forget.
Scarier than the Excorcist! Only PG-13! This movie is one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. This movie proves that gore/serial killers are unnecessary to make a horror movie.
oh, my god. my friend and i watched this movie in the dark, and afterwards, i got nightmares and couldn't go to sleep at all that night. enyone in their right mind would LOVE this movie.
This was an eery and suspenseful thriller but after watching you are left with a mountain of unanswered questions and a number of plot holes. It's so frustrating. The creepy ending, as scary as it was, leaves you clueless about the rest of the movie. If you try and figure this movie out you drive yourself crazy. Pretty scary though.
I loved this movie! it had a good plot, story line and acting. BUT it didn't have any scary parts! Like one part where the little girl comes out of the TV. Not so scary. Its a excelent movie but very fake. P.S. People passed out in the movie theater when they saw this movie.
