It is one of those movies that almost everyone can relate to. The story is about a boy named Scotty who moves to a new neighborhood in the summer, knowing absolutely no one other than his mother and step-father. Finally, through the leadership of a boy from the neighborhood's "baseball gang," Scotty becomes best friends with eight other boys. Baseball brings them all together, creating an adventure of a lifetime. When I watched this movie, it made me think of my childhood and all of my fun and innocent childhood memories. Before alcohol and drugs became such a huge part of our society, people found other, more wholesome ways to have fun. The Sandlot does a great job in demonstrating this. This movie is family-friendly and fun to watch. The humor, the bit of romance and the overall adventures that these boys go through symbolizes true friendship. This movie shows the importance of the bond between friends and family. I love how these boys became closer, and a lot of this formation of friendships was because of their leader. It goes to show how one person can make a difference by being a good example to those around you. It sends a good message to children, that striving to be a leader is not a bad thing if you use your leadership skills for good. The music also complimented the movie and story. The soundtrack to this movie is awesome, especially with the talent of composer David Newman. Every song in the movie fits perfectly with each scene. The director, David Mickey Evans, does a great job in portraying each character as someone different and unique. Each character was convincing in their own roles and I feel they did their job in portraying the author's purpose. Although the characters were so different and did not necessarily have much in common, they all shared a common interest of baseball. Each boy had something unique about him, whether it was his intelligence, his shyness, his humor, his toughness, his athleticism, his leadership skills, or his interest in science. The acting was really good and I was impressed with all of the humor and spunk these young boys had. This movie was funny, adventurous, and unpredictable at times, but it left me with a happy feeling. This brotherly bond, formed among these nine boys, gives hope to people who feel alone that they do not have to be alone. The main character's background is very common among children. There are many unfortunate situations for children where parents are divorced or one parent dies. In these situations, the children tend to end up feeling alone. This movie is inspirational to many. There is one thing about the DVD itself that I do not like. There are not many features on the DVD, other than subtitles. Despite the lack of special features, extras, or commentary, this movie is a must-see! Overall I give this movie five stars, ten out of ten, and a big thumbs up. It has nothing but good qualities and is enjoyable to watch, so I encourage everyone to buy this movie. This is one of those movies where you can watch it over and over again, and it never gets old. I find myself smiling throughout most of the movie because it is very heartwarming. If there was one movie I would recommend to a kid, or even a family, it would definitely be The Sandlot.

In any genre, this film has a great plotline of kids in the 60's before drugs, Vietnam and Watergate screwed up our idealism. This kind of captures that time and place where Scotty Smalls, the new kid on the block, is welcomed because he proves he has guts. I think that this movie is a classic and will outlive my generation and fuifill dreams for future generations of baseball generations if steroid doesn't destroy that grand culture.

Heart warming good clean fun adventures of a gang of kids that just want to hear the words Let's Play Ball! This film will definitely make you want to be a kid again back in the simplier days of summer, where the only really important things were 'do we have enough kids to play a game' and 'where can we scrap up enough money for another ball. '

This movie is completely enjoyable and utterly captivating. The actors are outstanding and the whimsical directing captures to a T the way we all used to view the world, once upon a time when we were children and the world was full of magic, wonder, and possibility. If baseball was an integral part of your childhood, as it was for mine, then this movie is especially recommended. No other movie has captured the true childhood dilemma of wanting to cheer a friend who just managed to tear the cover off a baseball, yet knowing that the most integral piece of equipment has just been destroyed! This is one of the best movies for and about kids to come along in quite awhile. A classic that will endure.
