Television sitcom star Tim Allen made his big screen debut with this light, family-friendly holiday comedy. Allen stars as Scott Calvin, the divorced dad of Charlie (Eric Lloyd). Scott is distressed to learn that his ex-wife Laura (Wendy Crewson) and Charlie's psychiatrist stepfather Neal (Judge Reinhold) have informed his son that there is no Santa Claus. While a sullen Charlie visits his dad on Christmas Eve, a noise on the roof brings them outside, where Scott startles the intruder, who tumbles from the roof. It turns out that there is a Santa after all, and Scott has just accidentally killed him. Because of a legal technicality known as "the Santa clause," Scott inherits the jolly old elf's job. As the next year passes, Scott rapidly gains weight, grows a white beard and meets the elf Bernard (David Krumholtz) -- who is the one who really runs the North Pole -- while Charlie regains his Christmas spirit. However, Neal becomes concerned about Scott's sudden change in appearance and insistence that he's Santa, and he forces him to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Director John Pasquin previously directed Allen in the TV series Home Improvement and would team with him again for Jungle 2 Jungle (1997).

Stars: ***** Everybody loves a funny, family movie with Santa falling off the roofs and talking reindeer! In this movie Tim Allen, the star of the show, hates Christmas. That all starts to change after he scares Santa Clause, who ends up falling off a roof! Watch how this ¿Grinch¿ turns into Santa and ends up saving Christmas with the help of some special friends. This is a spectacular movie because it is family oriented, you don¿t want to look away, and most of all, it is adventuress. Tim Allen (Scott in the movie) is an ill-spirited father who only cares about himself and money. His son, Charlie, would rather be at his mom¿s for Christmas than at his dad¿s. This movie is so amazing because Scott changes so much and he finally realizes what a blessing Charlie is. They bond throughout the movie and help my siblings and I see how lucky we are to have two loving parents. It also helped us realize that on Christmas morning, the best thing is being with your family and not just getting presents. After watching this movie, it brought my family even closer together over the holidays. This movie is easy enough for younger kids to understand, but interesting enough to keep the parents hooked. That is why this is such a family oriented movie. It is also the reason that The Santa Clause is our family¿s favorite movie! On Christmas Eve, Scott and Charlie hear noises on the roof. After running outside in only his underwear and a T-shirt, Scott yells at Santa who promptly falls off the roof and disappears. After putting on Santa on Santa¿s suit and climbing into his sled, Charlie convinces his father to go and deliver the rest of the presents and save Christmas for those kids. Scott grudgingly agrees, but only because he thinks that he is dreaming. He has some troubles while inside the houses. For instance, he is delivering a kyat, and he ends up knocking down the family¿s Christmas tree and all their candles. After all the work is done, Scott returns to the sleigh only wishing to go home. But the reindeer have different ideas. The reindeer take Scott and his son Charlie for an adventuress night at the North Pole where he finally begins to realize what he has gotten himself into. All these events happen all in a few minutes and this movie is so action packed that you don¿t want to look away. The movie is never boring and interesting! That is another one of the many reasons that this flick is so great! ¿It is all make-believe¿, Scott keeps telling himself after he wakes up peacefully in his bed. ¿It was only a dream!¿. But the changes that come in his life are indescribable, unexpected, and not easily hidden. Scott gains 45 pounds in 1 week. His hair turns white and his beard will not stop growing. He is more cheerful and he can tell whether little girls and boys are naughty or nice. His ex-wife thinks he is crazy and takes Charlie away from him. Only the magic of Christmas could pull this family back together, make them believe, and save Christmas again. This is my favorite movie because I can watch it with my whole family. We all love the movie and we all laugh the whole way through. It has so much action and we just can¿t look away. It is so adventuress and random and that just makes the movie all the better. I rate this movie at 5 stars. But don¿t take my option for it! Go and watch this movie yourself!!! You won¿t regret it. You might want to watch out for farting reindeer though.
This movie makes you want to believe in Santa Clause again. My husband and I watch it every holiday season; and no we don't have children. Tim Allen is wonderful. There are only one or two glimpses of his sitcom character.
I love this movie! It's one of my favorite Christmas movies. Tim Allen plays a wonderful Santa Clause!!
Everyone in our family loves to watch this movie. Great for Young and Oldsters too. A wounderful Holliday treat!
I don't celebrate Christmas but if I did, this is what Christmas would be like. The people who made this film truly imparted that sense of magic you see on the face of a small child who still believes in Santa Claus. If you don't believe in Santa Claus, the North Pole and Christmas, this movie makes you want to believe. I watch it year after year and never lose that sense of joy and magic.
The acting in this movie was terrible. If I had a DVD copy or a VHS copy of this movie , I would use it as a door stopper and not to view. Buy The Santa Clause 2 It's Better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
