All Movie Guide
This dark, disturbing version of a classic family story was directed with great delicacy by Agnieszka Holland. The novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett first came to the screen in a 1919 silent version, then in the form of a beloved 1949 feature, starring Margaret O'Brien. Four decades later, renewed interest in the story prompted two made-for-television films, one in Britain and one in the United States; a 1991 Broadway musical; and this 1993 remake. Young Kate Maberly has the central role as an orphan girl sent to live in the creepy mansion of her reclusive uncle, in which a sensitive, disabled cousin resides. This joint British-American production also features veteran actors Maggie Smith and John Lynch. Movie magic provides a redeeming ending when the secret garden blooms; but much of the film can be frightening for younger children. Holland's work is mature, faithful to the original, and unusually challenging for "family" fare.

The Actors and actresses act really well and showed expression well.Mary shows how she feels really well. The scenes are good because they show the difference between the places and the emotions in each room I didn't like the Secret Garden because it is disappointing compared to the book because the story is changes in ways. It more a movie for younger children not teenagers. The movie seems to go on & on & on & on.

It was a good story line and you got interested in it. It was a movie that was for all ages. It happy happy and sad parts. It made you feel good about yourself. I liked the idea that it was a secret garden. My favourite scene was when the garden grew at the speed of the eye it was a great idea that you good just watch the garden grow all the beautiful flowers just sprang in to life. The only thing I didn't like about it was they were onlt ten years old and they were a bit lovie-dovie. But over all it was fasinating , magical movie.

''I believed this film to be informative in that it was set in the 1800's and recent viewers would have (most likely) been unaware of what it was like during that era. This film could quite possibly have been a joy to watch for some as the storyline was very realistic, made perfect sense and portrayed natural feeling and emotions which viewers could easily relate to. I thought the actors played the roles of their characters very well and made the viewers feel like they were also experiencing what the actors were going through on-screen.''

This movie sent out different hope for people of different ages. It held fantasy for the young, love for those seeking it, and eternal happiness and beauty for those who want it. I loved the movie for its tender moments and realistic yet fantasy like attitude. A big two thumbs up for the actors and actresses as well as producer.

I think this was the first movie my parents ever bought me, and that's saying alot. I just love this movie and for some crazy and scary reason, I cry in the ending (I also cried when I couldn't find a pencil to write with so...) Anyways, it's a great movie and the actors are all convincing and even if I haven't seen the original movie, THIS ONE IS THIRTY TIMES BETTER!!!

The Secret Garden (1993) is a beautiful heartwarming inspirational movie! I also really like the version from 1949 that starred Margaret O'Brien and Dean Stockwell but my favorite is this 1993 Kate Maberly version. This is a great movie to watch when your are stressed out and need to boost your spirits. Very uplifting!

The Secret Garden is one of the best films I have ever seen. I shared it with my oldest son, and later on with his little brother. The scenery in this film is absolutely breathtaking - almost as breathtaking as the story itself. You'll love this movie which will become a timeless classic for sure. The characters are as deep as the message in the story. Grab a box of tissue and enjoy a far away land where a child finds love & life again. Beautiful story - enjoy !!

It made me want to wach it again and again! The parts I loved the most was when the girl and boy replenished her Aunts garden, helped her cousin learn how to walk, and the end of the wonderful story when the dad sees what his Nice did to the his wifes garden and sees his son walk with out anyone or things help!
