    Disappointing but still good

I grew up with the books, which were fabulous, but was disappointed with the treatment of this movie. It is very hard to take a great series from print to video and that may have been part of the problem. Perhaps if the movie dealt with just part of the series of 5 books. Overall, the movie was entertaining and, for someone who has not read the books, it was well done. For someone familiar with the story, there was quite a bit missing. Still worth watching, just not what I expected.

    UNBIASED

I have not read the series so i was un-biased and loved the movie. I have read all the harry potter series and have been disappointed in the last few movies so i know where the readers are coming from.

    Harry Potter wannabee

Another poorly made movie adapted from a great book series. Instead of rewriting everything, just deal with what happens in the actual books. The actors are subpar especially Christopher Eccleston whom I really liked as the Doctor in the Doctor Who series. There never really seems to be any real danger for the lead character as he searches for the objects he needs to keep the Dark at bay. Better to keep with the Harry Potter movies than this.

Sad deviation from the book we all love

Usually when I see a movie based on a book, I try to remember that it's not going to be the same, and attempt to refrain from over-comparing the two. However, this movie was just so poorly done compared to the book that it was hard not to feel let down. I didn't particularly enjoy the license that was taken with character portrayals, either. I don't know, I mean, the effects seemed pretty nice, but I just had such better hopes for it.
