    I Also Recommend:

The Serpent's Egg refers to Adolph Hitler's coming of age.

War torn Germany finally defeats Hitler in his first advance as Nazi Chancelor. Theses are shadows of things to come in the next ten to twenty years as Hitler finally takes power.
The Serpent's Egg refers to the seeds of evil already being placed in the populace. The Serpent's Egg will take ten to twenty years before it will mature and take over Germany.
Not one of Bergman's best, but still worth watching. This was his first "Hollywood film". Dino DeLaurentis produced and the film is of course in English.
The desperation of the times is highlighted by a miniature Auschwitts that fronts as a clinic for the towns people. In the sub basement doctors view films of sadistic experiments with a hearty laugh. David Caradine eventually gets to see the films because of his employ with the clinic. During the final moments German Guards break in and seize the films while the doctor who mans the projector commits suicide, hoping for one day that his dream of a large scale operation will be realized. ( The Death Camps )
Liv Ulman is terrific. David Caradine is like a fish out of water. The rest of the cast are like something out of a German Caberet.
There are much better Bergman films. This is certainly a start for anyone who is interested in Bergman and doesn't want to deal with subtitles.
