The heartwarming movie Shell Seekers comes to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer. The English soundtrack is solid, though less than spectacular. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, making it difficult to recommend this run-of-the-mill release from Artisan to the average DVD consumer.

Hallmark Hal of Fame destroyed Rosamund Pilcher's THE SHELL SEEKERS when they made this movie. The engrossing, wonderfully developed plot and strong, minutely drawn characters have been watered down until you scarcely recognize them. Angela Lansbury does her best, but she can't overcome the script. Even the casting was poor - Danus is particularly disappointing. I finally managed to sit through the whole film on my third attempt. Don't bother to buy it - I'm not sure it's even worth renting. Read or reread the book instead!

I personally enjoyed this movie very much. I definitely could identify with Angela Lansbury with her children and with her search. I think a lot of people feel like they need to find something that is missing from their life. I also think that it helps you to see that you should take time to spend with those that you really care about because they won't always be here...and to enjoy what you have...and not waste your time bickering because you miss so much!

This movie bears little or no resemblance to Rosamund Pilcher's beautifully written novel and I find it surprising that as author she consented to its release, so altered is the storyline. It may seem (to those who have not read the book) to be a pretty good and typical Hallmark-style movie, but it should never have been given the title of its namesake novel, because 'The Shell Seekers' it is NOT! It is so far off base that I have tossed out my copy.
