The Simpsons - Season 6

( 9 )

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
Year after glorious year, the creative team behind The Simpsons manages to find ways to keep the long-running comedy consistently funny. Season 6 is no exception -- it tops the trifecta of great collections that began with Season 4. During the 1994-95 season, the show moved to its comfortable Sunday time slot on Fox, where it has remained ever since. Of course, like previous seasons, it's darn near impossible to pick and choose the...

Of course, like previous seasons, it's darn near impossible to pick and choose the best episodes from the fantastic offerings found on this set, but we can sure try. In "Lisa's Rival," the elder Simpson daughter meets a student who's both younger and better than her at school, while Homer hilariously attempts to guard 100 pounds of stolen sugar from bees. In an homage to Westworld, the family visits "Itchy & Scratchy Land," touted as the "violentest place on Earth," and with a titular nod to the ’92 Tim Robbins campaign satire Bob Roberts, "Sideshow Bob Roberts" finds Sideshow Bob the incomparable Kelsey Grammer winning the race for mayor of Springfield. Season 6 also boasts the absolute best "Treehouse of Horror" episode, featuring some of the most quotable moments of any Simpsons episode. There’s a lot more here, though, including Lisa and Bart facing off in the hockey rink in the touching "Lisa on Ice." This is also the season of "Homer the Great," in which the Stonecutters look "deep within" Homer’s soul "and assign me a number based on the order in which I joined." You'll sing along with the Stonecutters' song and marvel at the resonance of guest star Patrick Stewart’s voice. Speaking of great Simpsons musical segments, the 101 Dalmatians-inspired "Two Dozen and One Greyhounds" finds Mr. Burns plotting to kidnap puppies to make a "greyhound fur tuxedo" and laying out his scheme in the showstopping "See My Vest." In other developments: Bart gets appendicitis from a box of Krusty-O's cereal with "jagged metal Krusty-O inside!" in " 'Round Springfield"; Homer decides to attend clown college in "Homie the Clown." Like other Simpsons releases, Season 6 is chock-full of commentaries on every episode, deleted scenes, and other bonus features, all of which make this set a sure bet for any Simpsons fan.

    CAN'T WAIT

These are some of the funniest episodes ever. The show started to get really funny in season 3, and seasons 4-7 can be considered the climax of hilarity. I am particularly excited for this set because, for some reason, the shows that have been running in syndication the past couple of years have all been more recent, less funny episodes. I can't wait for the next couple dvd sets so I can see Lisa become a vegetarian, Bart and Lisa compete against each other in ice hockey, and Homer and Bart lead Spirngfield to reclaim their beloved lemon tree from hated Shelbyville... classics I'll be showing my children someday

One of the last great seasons

If i had to choose the best simpsons seasons, i would not choose the early ones, although classic. the true best seasons come in the middle, seasons 4 through 8. These seasons are when the simpsons was at it's best, the characters were explored and the humor was perfect. I hope the simpsons ends soon, before it hits rock bottom.
