Sanaa Hamri, best known for her Prince and Mariah Carey music videos, directs; Elizabeth Chandler, who co-scripted the first film, adapts the Brashares book.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was a rare bird indeed: a movie intended for tween and teen girls, but with the maturity and thoughtfulness to captivate viewers of all ages and both genders. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 maintains the charm, overall cleverness, and strong performances, but there's an inevitable dip in the quality of the storylines, plus the slight letdown of no longer being surprised how good this franchise is. Sanaa Hamri takes over the directing reins from Ken Kwapis without missing a beat, getting sunny performances from the four stars, even when their plotlines are gloomy. Another strength that carries over, from a purely optic standpoint, is the film's function as a travelogue -- it returns not only to the Aegean waterfront of Greece, but also ventures to an archeological dig in Turkey. What may be unavoidable in an ensemble sequel is the difficulty of finding just the right plot arc for all the characters. For example, the Turkey expedition is cut short right when Blake Lively's Bridget is forging a nice bond with her mentor/mother figure Shohreh Aghdashloo. Bridget's journey is to learn more about why her mother committed suicide, but the sudden shift to seek out her grandmother in Alabama feels like indecision regarding what to do with her character. But to the film's credit, it grapples with the idea that people are needed in places they can't always be -- while America Ferrera's Carmen has an awakening about her potential at summer theater, she misses being there when her mother gives birth. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 may be more mature than its predecessor in this respect. It recognizes that high school friends travel toward incompatible destinies, and even a pair of magical pants can only do so much to bridge them.

    Good...

Not something I'd watch again and again but the acting was good and overall it was well-done.

    Two Similar to One

The second traveling pants was similar to the first traveling pants in that we the same girls longing for the same things as they did in the first movie. It is cute to watch and entertaining but far from stimulating.

    I Also Recommend:

The first "Pants" movie= life, but not this one!

This was a cute movie. I've seen it many times. It lives up to my exectations of putting 3 books into a two hour movie. Other than that, I don't know what to say. The acting and scripts were fine. The scenes in Greece were beautiful. I'd say rent it, but don't buy it if it's not your "type" of movie. (i.e.- you like action or fantasy, don't get it. if you like romance and chick flicks, get it!)

Good Movie, Though Sort of Disappointed

Last night, I rented this movie and all I can say is that it's not something I could watch a thousand times, and never get sick of it. There was a lot more drama involved in this movie, and it felt as if a lot was missing, (the soccer coach Bridget had a fling with, Carmen's father and step-mother). This sequel sort of dragged on and went nowhere. Also, there were too many things going on, and it didn't all seem to go together. The original one is uncomparable though. The sequel however? Not my favorite.
