A resurrected cop does battle with a villain whose quest for immortality threatens an entire metropolis in Sin City creator Frank Miller's adaptation of Will Eisner's acclaimed graphic novel. When a rookie cop is brutally killed and mysteriously brought back to life, he assumes the guise of The Spirit Gabriel Macht -- a masked crime fighter who prowls the shadows of Central City on a supernatural mission to keep the urban landscape safe. Upon discovering that his arch nemesis, The Octopus Samuel L. Jackson, is determined to live forever even if it means wiping out the entire population of Central City, The Spirit must race to stop the diabolical villain from achieving his cold-blooded plan. But even with his unique powers, the brave masked crusader will face a series of deadly challenges as a bevy of treacherous beauties including deceptively sweet girl next door Ellen Dolan Sarah Paulson, spitfire secretary Silken Floss Scarlett Johansson, wraithlike siren Lorelei Jaime King, seductive policewoman Morgenstern Stana Katic, and French black widow Plaster of Paris Paz Vega set out to seduce or consume him at every turn; even The Spirit's one true love, a volatile jewel thief named Sand Saref Eva Mendes, could ultimately destroy our hero before he accomplishes his mission of saving Central City.

    I liked this movie

Ok. So you're going to ask yourself "Why does he say he likes this movie if he only gave it one star?" -- My answer is that I liked it, but I simply can't recommend it. The film is an unqualified mess, plot-wise. It makes no sense what-so-ever.

Unless you are able to get over this major, MAJOR flaw and enjoy it only for its visuals (Eva Menedes deserving a speial mention here), you should stay far FAR away from this film!

    "Just Plain Damn Weird"

This is no Batman Begins. But as long as we're on the topic, remember the old Adam West Batman? Now imagine if that had been directed by the guy who did Sin City, and you have Spirit. Campy, ridiculous, and as the Octopus says, "Just plain damn weird." Personally, I love it because of it's self-aware over-the-top silliness. Like Shoot 'Em Up, it's silly, but it knows it's silly. This is a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously, and the biggest draw is the fantastic visuals, as expected.

Not Quite Sin City, But Still Great!

I had seen this movie while it was back in the theatres, but that was back when I wasn't on Barnes & Noble. It had been a while since I saw it after that, but I just watched it again for the 2nd time the other day, and I have to say, I thought it was very enjoyable. I think that I probably still like Sin City just a little better, but this movie was still great. I just can't bring myself to give it any less that 5 stars, although some of it was a tad hokey, but that's the comic book & graphic novel world sometimes though, so it's overlookable. I had an enjoyable time watching it. It was funny, had some unique action, and had an interesting story...and anyone that knows me anyway knows that I am really into comic book/graphic novel based movies, so that in and of itself, and that it was filmed in the same style as Sin City, 300, and the like, just made it really cool to me. All of the actors did a great job in the film too! And gosh, that police chief...I don't remember having seen that guy since back when I watched the Wonder Years. I am sure all of us that remember that show remember him as the dad. That was a classic show. Anyway though, all around great movie. I do believe I will pick up the collector's edition version to add into my collection pieces. I definitely recommend this to anyone that loves these type of movies, or that just wants something with some fun and humorous entertainment.

    Great escape movie

Anyone who grew up reading EC comics will like it. Good to watch with no over the top violence or sex. just like the comics of old. The acting is campy like the characters are written. I really liked this movie Will Eisner (I hope I spelled his name correctly)would really like this!

    I thought it was great.

It's not Sin City, but it's different. The visuals are great. It has a comic book feel to it. Which is why I recommend not taking it to seriously. It's supposed to make you laugh. Even though its weird at times, you just have to expect it. It's the way Frank Miller made it. I've read is comics and his comics are unusual too. Anyway If you have a good sense of humor and like odd films then maybe this is for you.
