While the image does have some shimmering problems along with some age marks, the picture is stunning and is easily the most important feature on the disc. Sound is presented in the original Japanese mono signal and is more than acceptable, considering its original source. Worthy of mention as well is a new and improved English subtitle translation as well as a lengthy essay by critic Geoffrey O'Brien. While the company could have put a bit more time into the extras, the disc is still something that enthusiasts will clamor to put into their collection.

    Fantastic Movie

    What a great movie this is. Tatsuya Nagadai completely surprised me with his acting in this movie(He is the lead in Kurosawa's Ran & Kagemusha). In this movie, Nagadai plays a samurai who is so skilled but merciless. He knows he is the best until he sees Toshiro Mifune (always amazing & who is a samurai instructor in this movie) display his swordplay in the night when he is surrounded by gangs (amazing fight sequence - beautiful cinematography). This movie shows the transformation of the protagonist from being a fearless warrior with lot of confidence to a warrior with fear & doubts. Watch it to enjoy this excellent movie.
