This is a great example of one way in which Shakespeare is translated onto the screen, namely a filmed recording of a stage production. But this is one of the very best I've seen. For one thing, Des Mcanuff's wonderful staging is matched by his talented directing of the film version (televised version, really). Very strong performances in every role, including Christopher Plummer as Prospero. Most notable is the woman playing Ariel. The best I've seen on screen or on stage. Caliban, Trinculo, and Miranda are also wonderful. I'm going to add this to my course on Shakespeare on screen as a required viewing. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
