The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

( 8 )

Overview

Leatherface and his sadistic cannibal family are back for seconds in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Pt. 2. MGM has done a sub-par job on this 1.85:1 non-anamorphic widescreen transfer of the film. Fans will most likely be disappointed at how grainy and dirty this print of the film looks, with its lack of an anamorphic enhancement and a fair amount of imperfections and defects marring the image. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround in English and sounds decent, if under-whelming. There is a small...

The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround in English and sounds decent, if under-whelming. There is a small amount of distortion in this track, though otherwise it's clear of any excessive hiss. With fidelity and dynamic range lacking, this sound mix is bland and very boring. Also included on this disc are French and Spanish subtitles. The only extra feature included on this disc is a theatrical trailer for the film.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
Much-hated at the time of its release, Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 has aged remarkably well, now playing as a strangely effective if none-too-subtle satire of several facets of '80s excess. Pure Grand Guignol, it turns its cannibal family into successful entrepreneurs, marketing their human stew to a wider audience than ever before. As an unstated goal, Hooper seems to want to outdo the countless imitators inspired by the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the upped ante on blood, gore, and general nastiness caused some troubles with the MPAA. While certainly not for all tastes, as a kind of extreme satire, it works pretty well. Dennis Hopper's over-the-top performance takes the edge off the sordidness and generally sets the tone of comedic excess, helping make Massacre 2 an interesting companion piece -- and, in many respects, a response -- to its predecessor.

LOVED IT! NOT! Which I could give it zero stars.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre that came out in 1974 was excellent. It was way before its' time. I bought the craziness of that particular and peculiar little town in Texas. It was brilliantly eerie. No other Texas Chainsaw Massacre has matched the original, at least, not until the latest Texas Chainsaw Massacre that came about in 2003. I still don't think it was as eerie as the original but it was effective in all its' gore and doom. The Hewitt family was simply insane and I believed it. I didn't feel like they were acting crazy, I felt like they were crazy. For some strange reason I was more affected by Morgan's plight.

    WORST MOVIE EVER!!!!!

This movie was the antithesis of what a good movie should be. Movies are my second favorite media next to music and the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a very good eerie film which had a very good sense of creepiness about it. Given the fact that this movie is based on a radio DJ and Dennis Hopper stars, I thought that this movie would prove to be a worthy sequel to the original. However, DO NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE CASE OF THIS FILM. That action alone is enough to make you dumber. This movie had the worst special effects and an even dumber plot, and I'm not even going to mention how terrible the ending is (even though I just did). My respect for Dennis Hopper has gone down to a near minimum after viewing this film. This movie has made it to the top of my worst movies ever list. There is nothing left to say about this piece of cinematic rubbish.

    BOO

I hate this movie because it was so incredibly stupid. The gore looked so fake strait from the beginning of the movie even for an old movie it was horribly fake. I love all the othe TCM movies and including the new one in theaters which is the scariest movie ever. And this movie had really stupid things like a HORNY LEATHERFACE!!! and an insane hipi which has a metal plate in his head. Don't rent this movie yet alone buy it. Sorry about the spelling errors.
