Overview

Fans of the Three Stooges will feel like their prayers have been answered with this generous, lovingly remastered sampling of the trio's early material. After years of muddy-looking public domain videos and a few aesthetically questionable legitimate releases (those unfortunate 'colorized' releases), The Three Stooges Collection, Volume One: 1934-1936 is a treat for the eyes. It includes every short the trio produced between 1934 and 1936 and each has been given an impressive remastering job that really brings out the detail of the black and white photography. The audio portion of these transfers sticks to the original mono mix for each short and they sound nice and crisp despite their age. The one disappointing aspect of this set is a lack of extras. Hopefully, future releases will offer some retrospective featurettes or commentaries for fans. That said, the generous array of skillfully remastered shorts offered here delivers plenty of bang for the buck and The Three Stooges Collection, Volume One: 1934-1936 is thus a necessary package for Stooges fans.

I have been a fan of the stooges for most if not all of my life, and they have never looked better than they do in this collection. I was happy to see that columbia pictures released a collection of shorts due to the difficulty of getting any of the stooges at all that was of any quality. But when I actually watched the dvds I was surprised at the picture quality. It was like I was watching something brand new, and it was nothing short of beautiful. If you are a stooge fan, you owe it to yourself to watch if not own this collection.

I love the Three Stooges. Ever since my dad showed me I've become a Three Stooges fan. I currently have all 8 VOLUMES (190 EPISODES), so I have every Three Stooges Episode. As for this volume, there are some classics like "Punch Drunks"(Episode 2), where when Curly hears the sound of "Pop Goes The Wheasel" from Larry's guitar he goes nuts, "Hoi Pollio"(Episode 10) where the boys have to learn how to be gentleman, and "Men in Black"(Episode 3) where the boys are doctors in a hospital taking care of patients and things don't turn out smoothly as always with these dopes. AS A PREVIEW FOR READING MY REVIEW, Volume 7 has two 3-D episodes. Believe it or not, 3-D was working back then in the 1950s. And yes it comes with two pairs of 3-D glasses.

I am happy to see these great shorts re-mastered, but why do they have to be pan and scan?! Losing parts of the original images as the makers meant them to be??

My husband loves the "Three Stooges" and thought this would make a nice gift. Since I was not sure about the format I was pleasantly surprised at the lenght of the clips and the clairity. The first three in the series where great and I will purchace the rest.

Moe Larry cheese...This is a fantastic collection of the Stooges. Volumes 2 & 3 are also excellent. This is the real deal and not a bunch of "stuff" thrown together. Worth every cent paid.

This is a great collection. I am attempting to correct a statement made by the prior review. The reason they are not in letterbox is because they weren't made in letterbox. Before 1954, the standard of filmaking was the 1.33:1 aspect ratio. These short films are being presented in their original splendor!
