Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Perry Seibert
As a book, The Time Traveler's Wife charmed millions with its tale of doomed love, but the fantastical premise will make the movie a challenge for some viewers to follow. Eric Bana stars as Henry, a research librarian who suffers from a genetic disorder that makes him disappear suddenly, and then reappear at some other point in time. This makes maintaining his marriage to artist Clare Rachel McAdams very emotionally difficult for the both of them. For example, Henry first meets Clare at a library when they are in their twenties, but Clare sees Henry initially when she is 6 and he is 38 because that's the age Harry is when he first travels to that time in the past. Although the adult couple are happy when they're together, Clare often grows despondent because she never knows when Henry will disappear, or for how long. Eventually, hints of Henry's death begin to appear, forcing the couple to appreciate every second they have together. While that may sound like a confounding setup, the movie has the smarts to not worry about plausibility. No, instead of encouraging you to think about what's happening, director Robert Schwentke wants you to feel -- deeply and profoundly -- every fleeting moment of happiness the doomed couple can share before their imminent demise. The problem is that there aren't enough of them. Between debating about having a child, fighting over his constant disappearances, and trying to figure out why they saw an older version of Harry naked and bleeding on the floor, we're left with so few moments of domestic bliss that it becomes hard to believe Clare isn't certifiably crazy for staying with him. But after all, who said love, or a three-hanky tearjerker, has to be sane? The Time Traveler's Wife shares something with another time-bending romance, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Both movies offer a fatalistic viewpoint toward relationships -- they want to make it clear that because death is unavoidable, you need to love as strongly as you can and for as long as possible. But where Fincher's film explored this idea at a nearly philosophical level, Schwentke and his crew go exclusively for the gut. The result is a film so single-minded in its attempt to wring tears that it's easy to dismiss, but so effective in its execution that it's hard to deny it achieves its very simple goals.

"You're my best friend, the one i love." When you watc

"You're my best friend, the one i love." When you watch this movie starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams. You know you will fall in love with the love after you see those two acting together. Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams were the best characters and actors that mad this movie successful. They really worked amazing together. I found myself mad when Eric would disappear when the pair would be having an argument over how long he has been gone. But while they are fighting the audience sees how he slowly disappears and then she wants to stop fighting and be happy but sad at the same time that he is gone. I thought that the Movie was quiet convincing throughout the whole movie. Eric really allows the audience to feel like he is really disappearing and showing up in different places where he has to fend for himself and either make is way back home or wait until he disappears again.
The actors were amazing expect the people behind the curtains did a phenomenal job .The special effects with “The Time Travelers Wife” were unbelievable. When Eric Bana would start to disappear and reappear somewhere around the world was fantastic. Also how they made him look younger every time he would appear in the meadow when he would talk with Rachel. Every time we saw him disappear it was like a part of him was going away that no one would ever be able to gain back.
“The Time Travelers Wife” gets a five star rating from myself for both the actors and the special effects. My parents and I enjoyed this movie a lot. It is pretty cool to see what life is like when you have to fend for yourself. Another life lesson that I learned is love is a passion and you cannot let your passion to love someone special leave. You have to hold on to it and keep it safe like it is yours and belongs to you. I would rate this a “Teenage/Adult Favorite” movie for sure.
So what is my final say for “The Time Travelers Wife?” Did I hate the movie? No I did not hate the movie. Did I love the movie?” Yes I did love the movie. Watching this movie was very enjoyable and I would have never expected anything that happened in the movie to go on.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

this has got to be my all time favorite movie. i loved the book, i loved the movie. i cry every time i see it. when i finished the book, i was beside myself because i wanted to read it again and again, i didn't want it to be over. i almost cried because i felt like i wouldn't be able to find reading material to match up to the maximum i had met with this. the movie is amazing, clare and henry's love is stuff that everyone wants, but can only read in books until they find the right person for them. this movie rocks. this book rocks.

    Great!

This movie is VERY good. Beware, however--it IS a tear-jerker. I haven't read the book, so maybe that's why I like it so much, but oh well. Plus, having dark, tall, and handsome Eric Bana as the lead male doesn't hurt ;)

    Does the Novel Justice. Beautiful!

Considering the amazing complexity of the novel, this movie does a very good job staying true to the novel and manages to express the main themes of the book as well. It's the kind of movie where you notice something new every time you watch it. Amazing love story! Highly recommend it!

The special effects made the movie. I enjoy all Rachel McAdams' movies. Eric Bana played his role very well. Some humorous moments as well as emotional ones.It is not thought provoking, but generally entertaining.I would recommend renting not buying.

Although I enjoyed parts of this movie, I must say there were moments when I almost shut it off. It was hard to follow at times and confusing. The back and forth started to annoy me about halfway through the movie, but I did manage to watch it all the way through. The scenery was nice throughout the movie.

I know that I like this more than most reviewers.

Of course there are gaps in the film that are better understood by those of us who have read the book. Read the book first. Then watch this. If you can connect with a science-fiction premise that isn't all rockets and aliens, and you like seeing the aspects of joy and loss in remarkable human connections, then you will possibly like this as much as I did. It's a classic tragicomedy. I laughed, and I cried.

    Great movie for any night!!

Wow!!! That's always the first word that comes to mind when I think of this movie!! The acting is fantastic and the story is captivating!! I never really thought Eric Bana was all that great, let alone sexy, but after watching this movie...I'm in love!! You'll laugh at they're simple loving home life and cry with them during the hardships! This is a movie to watch over and over and over!!! My only complaint is that it deviates a quite a bit from the book in key places. My suggestion...read the book, watch the movie, read the book, watch the movie...and so on!! You WILL enjoy!!

    The time travelers wife.

I don't know. I found this movie to be kinda morbid. But at the same time I can't say that it's all bad. I think that they could have done a even better job though.

    HORRIBLE!

The movie has no insight, no detail in how and why the man travels in time. Well, time travelling is not possible in our time, but lack of details like why it happens, how it happens, what is the purpose of happening makes it unbelievable and makes the movie boring, and a waste of time.
