The Who: Who's Better, Who's Best

( 1 )

Overview

At their best, the Who were a band who were just as exciting to look at as they were to listen to, between Keith Moon's manic, arm-flailing drum style, Pete Townshend's frantic leaps and windmill chops, and Roger Daltrey's swaggering and microphone lashing. Given this, it's no surprise that this collection of performances by the group offers plenty of entertainment value, and has been brought to disc in fine fettle.

The clips on The Who: Who's Better, Who's Best have been transferred to disc in their original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and while the quality of the source material varies considerably (especially on the early numbers), most of the material looks good, and even the footage that doesn't fare as well has rarity and historical importance on its side. The audio is enjoyably robust throughout, and has been mastered in three formats -- PCM Stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1, and DTS 5.1. The songs are performed in English, with no subtitles or multiple language options included. As a bonus, this edition includes videos for an additional three songs, as well as a "Jukebox" feature that allows users to program the songs in the order they choose. While this is hardly the definitive Who DVD release, Who's Better, Who's Best is a lively collection of the group's best known songs, and both fans and dabblers will finds plenty to enjoy here.
