While this picture may not be reference quality, overall it's the best the film has ever looked. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono in English and French and often sounds flat and boring. Any dynamic range and fidelity is sorely lacking, though this is to be expected from a film of such considerable age. All aspects of the mix are happily free and clear of any excessive hiss or distortion. Also included on this disc are English and French subtitles. The only extra feature available on this disc is a theatrical trailer for the film, making this DVD edition of The Wild One a nearly bare bones disc.

This classic youth rebellion movie was controversial not just for its permissive youth violence, but especially for its lack of a moral solution. Marlon Brando's image was long defined by his iconic role as a motorcycle gang leader. Directed by Laslo Benedek, the film is a cultural turning point, a mid-1950s harbinger of the generational and social unrest which would follow in the 1960s. Easy Rider, the emblematic film of the late 1960s counter-culture, was itself a derivative of The Wild One. As two gangs of hoods terrorize a quiet Midwestern U.S. town, the complacency of post-war, white-bread America is figuratively shattered, and nothing in American culture would ever be quite so placid again. As a film, The Wild One is a brooding soap opera that seems dated in retrospect, but its cinematic impact was slight compared to its cultural reverberations. Brando's stature as the bad boy of his era grew to immense proportions, and the film was banned in Britain for fourteen years (until 1968), as authorities feared that it would incite riots.

    The Original !!!

    Ok. this does not fit into the ''Biker Chicks in Heat'' category, but it is a kick to see Brando and Marvin as twenty-somethings expressing a true sense of the angst of the 50-60's. Brando's line ''What You Got?'' laid out the rules for the next 15-20 years until it got to be ''WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?'' in the 80's. So it was a cheesy plot; what do you want for that era, Fellini ? By the way, Brando was riding a Triumph, not a Harley;Lee Marvin rode the Harley.
