    More than excellent series

Watched this long ago on TV and had to wait a week for each installment. Now I watch it from beginning to end whenever I want. And I share with family and friends who all rave about this. As always, B&N shipping time was excellent.

One of the best mini series I have ever seen.

The details in this mini series are accurate, engaging and the story line keeps you on the edge of your seat and wanting to see more. As I watched each installment (there were 7 disks in the set), I could not wait to watch the next one. I had to go out an buy the sequal, War and Peace!!!

    A reviewer

Adapted by Herman Wouk from his bestselling epic novel, The Winds of War boasts an all-star cast, magnificent locations, and a classic theme song. Even though some of the performances are a bit melodramatic (particularly Ali MacGraw's), it still remains a compelling adaptation and darn good drama. Though he's not listed as part of the main cast, Gunter Meisner's performance as Adolf Hitler is mesmerizing.

    history buff's delight!

I remember watching every second of this exceptional mini-series over 20 years ago. I recently purchased the DVD set and yes, it is just as moving as I remember. From the haunting theme music, to the vivid period reconstruction and the superb cast, this is television at its very finest. I give this masterpiece my highest recommendation. I will purchase the sequel, "War and Remembrance", in the very near future.

    Greatest World War II series

I wish the DVD people had brought this out first. I had bought War and Remembrance previously. Both sets. Now I am watching this set and will be watching Parts one and two of War and Remembrance shortly. It boosts a superb and believable cast. The series is made extremely believable. The entire series 'flows' together to actually be able to call this a 'long movie'. Nothing compares with the work of this director and Herman Wouk is a favorite author of mine as well.

This is a great DVD epic.

My husband and I found this story very engaging. It not only was a story about a families love and dedication for its country, but shows us their astounding courage when faced with the most traumatic war atrocities of all time.

My older children found it very educational and informative. The romance intwined with this most difficult period in history, inspires you to look forward to every next epidsode.

Great DVD for understanding what lead up to WW II

I loved the mini series when it first aired and I enjoyed it as much or more on my new HD TV. The details are great and I'm sure it would be difficult or impossible to create an eighteen hour "movie" in today's economic atmosphere.
