His eighth-grade math class includes a close-knit quartet of friends -- Randy Wagstaff (Maestro Harrell), Michael Lee (Tristan Wilds), Duquan "Dukie" Weems (Jermaine Crawford) and Namond Brice (Julito McCullum). The wisecracking Brice is ignominiously selected to be part of a university experiment studying at-risk kids, which counts a former police commander, Bunny Colvin (Robert Wisdom), as a consultant. Out on the corners, Marlo Stanfield (Jamie Hector) strengthens his grip on the city's West Side narcotics trade once dominated by the Barksdale gang, and with his cold-blooded lieutenants, Chris (Gbenga Akinnagbe) and Snoop (Felicia Pearson), devises an ingenious method to hide the collateral damage of his ascent from the law. This sleight-of-hand bedevils detectives Freamon (Clarke Peters), Greggs (Sonja Sohn) and Bunk (Wendell Pierce). The trio are flummoxed by the lack of victims that would surely coincide with Marlo's ever-widening domain, a savage power grab that also threatens the relative peace of the New Day Co-Op under East Side pooh-bah Proposition Joe (Robert F. Chew). Meanwhile, the Democratic primary in the city's mayoral campaign pits the entrenched African-American incumbent, Clarence Royce (Glynn Turman), against Councilman Tommy Carcetti (Aidan Gillen), a scrappy politico with a savvy campaign manager in Norman Wilson (Reg E. Cathey), but a long shot to become Charm City's first white chief executive in years.

Like the previous three seasons, Season 4 focuses on a theme: education -- or lack thereof -- for the children of West Baltimore. Namond Brice Julito McCullum, Duquan "Dukie" Weems Jermaine Crawford, Randy Wagstaff Maestro Harrell, and Michael Lee Tristan Wilds all attend the same middle school in an area of Baltimore where drug dealing, shootings, and violence are commonplace. The season begins with the struggles of each boy to survive the reality of an inner-city existence. When Roland "Prez" Pryzbylewski James True-Frost leaves the Major Case Unit to become a teacher at the boys' school, even he can't comprehend how difficult teaching these boys will be. Meanwhile, the drug trade continues unchecked, with sociopath Marlo Stanfield Jamie Hector in absolute control. His enforcers, Chris Gbenga Akinnagbe and Snoop standout Felicia Pearson, go to every length to secure Marlo's corners -- including using a unique method to dispose of rivals' bodies. That gets the attention of steel-eyed veteran detectives Lester Freamon Clarke Peters, Kima Greggs Sonja Sohn, and Bunk Moreland Wendell Pierce who, despite no longer working the wire, are still following Marlo's activities. Trying to keep the body count out of the public eye is new mayoral candidate Tommy Carcetti Aidan Gillen, who faces an uphill battle in a town rife with corruption and backroom deals. By the time The Wire's 13-episode Season 4 ends, all three storylines converge into a sobering look at life and death in Baltimore.

    Season 4 of the Wire

    The Wire moves from the politics in season 3 to the troubles of inner-city schools in season 4. I have to admit, when I heard all the hype about season 4, I didn't know if I believed it 100 percent, not because I thought it would be bad, but because I didn't know it could get much better. Well, I was wrong, this was the best season, but that does not mean the first three were just average. There is something about the children in this season and how in just 13 episodes, the viewer sees how they become the person they become when there the next Stringer Bell, Bodie, Cutty, or McNulty. I will not give away the plot but I will say that this is probably the saddest season so far, there were times that I nearly cried. I will not talk about the incredible writing and acting because I talked about that in my reviews for the prior seasons. However, I will say this, Chris Partlow and Snoop as the scariest characters in te show (many would say Omar, but I think he's just the coolest).

    The Wire

    I began watching the Wire in HBO in season 2, the story writing was real and riviting. The actors were incredibly believable. The storyline kept you coming back. The Barnes and Noble deal was too good to pass up. 50% off and buy two get one free, and I needed seasons 3, 4, and 5. awesome

    Poignant, masterful storytelling.

    Simply excellent television. It's soul-crushingly depressing at times, and gut-bustingly hilarious at others. Season 4 is by far the best of the show, and considering the bar set by season 3, that's no mean feat. Never before have I seen a show that treats major social issues with such truthful sincerity.

    Best Season Yet!!!

    After finishing the entire season in a matter of two days, I can honestly say that David Simon and the writing crew for The Wire have outdone themselves again. I can't say it enough that each season gets better than the one before. By utilizing the massive amounts of characters on the show, The Wire, takes the viewer on a roller coaster ride through the entire city of Baltimore. The best season of what has to be the best television show ever made. Buy it right away.
