While the riders are shown braving the dangers of carrying mail through hostile Indian country, they also go the extra distance -- coming to the aid of the downtrodden and helpless. In "Black Ulysses," for instance, the boys shelter a runaway slave; "A Good Day to Die" finds the Kid uncovering a plot to steal Indian land; Hickok stops a corrupt brothel owner from stealing army supplies in "Fall From Grace"; and Buck faces a decision of whether or not to join his people or stay with his friends when the Kiowa declare war in "Home of the Brave." Despite the requisite frontier gun violence, The Young Riders is a tame addition to the cowboy TV drama, and with its positive message about morals and values, is suitable for family viewing.

Great fun, if not a true portrait of the Wild West

Okay, so you're not going to pass your history exam by watching this show. So what? This show was the reason I became interested in US History. It may not have provided the best resource to learn about the American Frontier, but it was a great way to get kids to pay attention in history class. Can't wait for Seasons 2 and 3!

    A true flashback!

The Young Riders was a fun family show back when I was growing up. It brought back the love for the classic the Wild West television shows and movies. I cannot wait until season 2 is released! Join Kid, Lou, Teaspoon & the others in their wacky Poney Express adventures. A great show for kids to watch as you relive your memories of this series.

    A Terrific Family Entertainment Selection!

Those of us that watched this series in the early 1990's can remember waiting a whole week between episodes avidly anticipating the next installment. Well-written, well-directed, well-acted and entertaining from start to finish, The Young Riders, uses good values and teaches the spirit of the Old West through the Pony Express riders' adventures. In history, the Pony Express lasted only 2 years. However, this series lasts three seasons. There are changes in the cast that cover an entire spectrum of lifestyles and include all politically-correct segments of society. History is addressed with some clever twists. The viewing is suitable for children but adults will be drawn to its charm, romance, and period sets/costumes. Which one of us wouldn't want to see a young Josh Brolin or Stephen Baldwin in their prime? Melissa Lea, season 1 only, displays the acting skills that later set her on the path to Frozen River and other films. Brett Cullin, of Thorn Birds fame, is her love interest. Their chemistry is enthralling, you want them to succeed. The teenage romance between Kid and Lou is some of the most compelling drama of innocence and flowering emotions that I have experienced in a television drama. Would that we could have season 2 and 3 on DVD! Hopefully, the producers will understand that The Young Riders do indeed have a following. All who view this series will only want more. Praise, praise, praise.
