Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
Venerable BBC fixture Rowan Atkinson brings a bit of his Black Adder persona to this 1995 comedy, which finds him cast as an inspector in a bumbling suburban police force. Black Adder writer Ben Elton -- who authored every episode of Blue's run -- reunited with Atkinson for the two-series set, collected in its entirety here on three discs. Unlike his recognizable Mr. Bean character, Atkinson plays it straight as Inspector Raymond C. Fowler, a pompous, by-the-book type who's in charge of a motley crew of officers. The cops include the desk sergeant, Patricia Dawkins Serena Evans, Fowler's live-in lover who is always rebuffed by the uptight inspector when she wants to have sex; the veteran Constable Gladstone Rudolph Walker, who also appeared in Mr. Bean; Constable Kevin Goody the hilarious James Dreyfus, the comic relief who comes across a little gay but really has the hots for a female co-worker; and Constable Maggie Habib Mina Anwar, the smartest and most capable of the group. These officers clash with the station's plainclothes detectives, who believe the beat cops can't hold a criminal-catching candle to them, and humor springs from the competitive tension. While the show is not as monumentally successful as Black Adder, fans of Atkinson and witty, rapid-fire dialogue should add The Thin Blue Line to their comedy collections.

This is British humor at its finest with the DVD box set consisting of all 14 episodes from series(seasons)1 & 2. So what are you waiting for? The Thin Blue Line will tickle your funny bone and keep you in stitches all day! Now isn't that a great idea?

    We want more

This is good ole British comedy. It has one of my favorite lines from Brit-coms. Stop fannying about! Just to say it makes me laugh.

    EDITED for Some Reason?

I've got the internet downloads of the original BBC broadcasts and now I have this DVD set, and unfortuantely the US version leaves out some very important, and FUNNY, parts. If I had know these scenes were going to end up on the cutting room floor, I wouldn't have bought the set. However, if you like Atkinson and don't mind being shortchanged, the comedy is very well done with a fine cast. Too bad you won't see all the action.

    PREPARE TO LAUGH!

Every filmgoer knows that comedy is rare because it is difficult. The 'Thin Blue Line' is Rowan Atkinson at his befuddled best. He is the chief of police in a small English and no matter what goes wrong his lip never quivers nor does he admit any error EVER.
