Thomas and the Magic Railroad

( 7 )

Overview

Considering its lackluster reception from critics and at the box office, it's not surprising that Thomas and the Magic Railroad comes to home video in a fairly no-frills DVD. The video is presented in standard aspect ratio only; the audio fares a bit better, with Dolby Digital 5.1 and Surround tracks. The disc also includes a brief deleted scene, "Sundae Surprise!," the theatrical trailer, cast and crew biographies, and a link to the film's website. Like the film itself, the DVD of Thomas and the Magic Railroad ...

    not bad

This movie has a few phrases that I would rather not have a preschool aged child learn (though they probably will learn them in kindergarten or first grade) but overall has a nice story line. Alec Baldwin probably is the best actor in the movie though I'm sure the other actors did the best that they could with the script given. My preschooler does enjoy watching it and it is a nice change from the other Thomas DVDs that we've seen again and again and again. It is a great price and maybe would be a fun new surprise on a long trip to help keep your preschooler entertained.

My 4 Year old Enjoys watching it over and over again/ Interesting Symbolism for Adults interested in DaVinci Art Symbolism

The initial reaction was uncertain from my 4 year old boy. As we watched it more he enjoyed Mr. Conductor's character played by Alec Baldwin. The character played by Peter Fonda did not have much depth.

For adults who enjoy discovering DaVinci code symbolism in art this video will be interesting to watch. The "red" train "Lady" is "hidden", and or is in hiding from the mean diesel who had tried to get rid of her. The final message that Lady brings is that you carry the "magic" inside of you.

    Awful waste of money

My son (2.5 yrs) loves Thomas. He refuses to watch this and wants the other Thomas shows on. He simply wanders out of the room when Baldwin and Fonda do their hapless schtick. And this is a kid who will watch everry minute of ther other videos. While not objectionable, it is a waste of money. You'd be better of buying one of the other videos.

    Kids Love but Parents Laugh!

The story in this video is kind of hokey, and aside from the energy of the the 2 conductors, the acting is fairly weak. However, if your kids like the trains and watching Diesel 10 chase Thomas and Lady with his claw a-chomping, then this is the movie for you! It won't win any awards but my kids (ages 2 & 4) like watching it :-) Also, we are fairly conservative about what we let them watch, and the content in this is OK. Nothing objectionable or very scary.

Wish there were more like this one!

We happened upon this movie by accident and my son (2.5) LOVES it! He's not a TV watcher, rarely will he sit still for the 1/2 hour Thomas on Sat. & Sun. mornings but this one keeps his attention. I wish there were more like it where a child can get interested in the story and the trains are part of the "cast" not just another narrated story. I've read a couple of the other reviews with comments about the acting abilities of the human actors: give me a break. Yes, they aren't the greatest performances but it's a kids story and really the humans are just "supporting roles". Plus even Mom and Dad can get in to.

    A life saver

I think this movie is wonderful for kids. My sons, 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 years old just love Thomas and all the other trains, they have watched this movie over and over. The other morning things weren't going well so we put the dvd in and all was calm for the 84 minutes, and that has happened more than one time.

    Dismal acting - boring movie

Not that I need face paced action to keep me interested, but this movie moves SO SLOW. The acting by Fonda and the young girl is HORRIBLE. Stick to the series and forget about this movie!
