The time-bending Jean-Claude Van Damme action movie Timecop teaches that if you turn back the clock -- you're history! Universal has done a very poor job on this transfer, yet has polished off the audio presentation very nicely. Timecop is presented in a chopped pan-and-scan 1.33:1 standard presentation and suffers from lack of depth or detail. While some scenes looked clear, others tended to have a washed out or grainy look to them. While this is not a horrible transfer, a widescreen edition certainly would have been preferred. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 and is miles above the video portions of this disc. Directional effects were utilized nicely, with dialogue and music mixed evenly. No distortion or hiss was present at any time during the feature. Timecop is very thin on extra materials, featuring a theatrical trailer in widescreen (which is baffling since the movie is standard), very short production notes, and cast and crew information on four of the principle players. While sporting a very nice soundtrack, Timecop is ultimately a very unfulfilling DVD edition.
