Tired of Reality TV? Watch Something with Character Depth and Plot Quality.

This 13 part series will be some of the best video viewing you do. It's based on a very lengthy novel by R. F. Delderfield and for the most part stays true to the novel.

This is a series that men, women and mature teenagers will understand and appreciate. It is filled with opportunities for discussions about history, life's plans, changes to those plans, and triumphs after hard work and preparation.

David Powlett-Jones grew up the youngest son in a Welsh mining family. Through the sacrifices of his family, he receives a mediocre education; the best available to him, and tremendous resentment from his brothers who are still miners. What David gets, because of his education, is drafted into the army during World War I and placed into a leadership position for which he is ill-prepared and probably too sensitive to perform well. Thus begins the twenty-three year story of an emotionally and physically injured young man.

During his hospital recovery near a boys' boarding school, he meets the kindly, old headmaster who invites him to live and teach at the school though his social and educational background is not as stellar as the other instructors. He heals, he continues his own education, he marries, he suffers a tragedy worse than war, he tolerates a corrupt evil new boss, he survives and prevails to the headmastership he deserves.

For once: a respectful adaptation of a beloved novel. There are a few plot changes, but the writing and cast of this mini-series is exceptional.
