After changing his ways because of his encounter with the Doctor, Jack now leads a covert operational group in Cardiff, Wales, known as Torchwood, which is tasked with tracking down alien life on Earth. Considered "outside the government" and "beyond the police," his team includes: Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles), a Cardiff police officer; Owen Harper (Burn Gorman), a medical doctor; Toshiko Sato (Naoko Mori), a communications and technology expert; and Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd), the group's assistant. Torchwood's increased violence and sexual content (often focusing on pansexual Capt. Jack) sets it apart from its predecessor, and that's a good thing. It allows the series to place more focus on the complex adult relationships within the team dynamic, rather than focusing on rampaging aliens week to week. Most episodes have more to do with alien technology and the effects it can have than with actual creatures, anyway. But don't get us wrong -- seeing the team outsmart fantastic computer-generated monsters is a definite highlight on this sci-fi series. The 13 episodes of Torchwood's Season 1 originally aired on the BBC in the U. K. and made it to cable network BBC America in 2007.

    Can I give more than 5 stars?

    Amazing doesn't cut it. Great acting, great storylines, and, most importantly, Captain Jack. :) It's a bit darker than it's parent show 'Doctor Who', but it has the same ability to go from a hilarious comedic moment to something dark and serious in the blink of an eye. There are tear jerkers and laugh-out-loud moments in equal proportion. So whatever your reason for getting into Torchwood, [Aliens, plot, curiousity, Welsh accents, John Barrowman...etc...]You won't be disapointed. Excellent show -- I'm looking foreward to many more seasons!

    Couldn't get enough of Torchwood

    I got hooked on Torchwood after only watching one episode on cable. I bought Season One and could hardly wait to see more. I must admit that the British are a little more uninhibited about what they allow the TV viewers to see. That's part of what makes it good. No holding back. You either will get into the series or you won't. I did make the mistake of viewing the Children of Earth DVD before Season Two of Torchwood. Big mistake. Season Two is even better than S1 but don't spoil it by watching the Children of Earth before you complete S1 and S2.

    Addicting Series

    I started watching Torchwood Children of Earth and became intrigued with the series. So I proceeded to start at the beginning of the series and I became addicted to it. Torchwood has very good characters and story-line. It is a great series.

    SWEET!

    ok... so I was told to watch Dr. Who to learn an english accent, and I was not able to get into it. However Torchwood is AWESOME! There is so much energy to this show. the cast works well together, and they are all very attractive.
