When Woody is toy-napped by Al McWhiggin Wayne Knight, greedy collector and owner of Al's Toy Barn, it is up to Buzz to lead the rest of Andy's toys -- ever-anxious dinosaur Rex Wallace Shawn, Slinky Dog Jim Varney, Mr. Potato Head Don Rickles, and Hamm John Ratzenberger -- on a daring rescue mission. At Al's, Woody learns that he was once the star of a 1950s TV puppet show, Woody's Roundup when he meets fellow collectibles Stinky Pete the Prospector Kelsey Grammer, Bullseye the horse, and Jessie the cowgirl a rollicking performance by the magnificent Joan Cusack. Toy Story 2 narrowly escaped straight-to-video status, a common fate even for sequels to Disney's more successful films The Return of Jafar, the sequel to Aladdin, is a prime example. But with the same director, vocal talents, and high-budget digital animation gathered for the second go-around of Woody, Buzz, and their plastic pals, Disney and Pixar positioned Toy Story 2 for another Thanksgiving theatrical release, saving one of film's most satisfying family franchises from the scrap heap. The sequel earned a 245-million-dollar domestic gross, well outpacing the original, and some say did the impossible: it actually improved on the near-perfect Toy Story. The film opens with a James Bond-like vignette of Buzz Lightyear dodging aliens and lasers on a wondrous foreign planet, eventually facing the Evil Emperor Zurg, his nemesis. It turns out to be a video game played by the toys in Andy's bedroom, in a sly commentary on Andy's changing interests; little do the neurotic toys know it, but video games will ultimately make them obsolete. As visually arresting as the opening is, the rest of the film maintains the pace, taking the characters through an adventure that rivals the original: saving Woody from a nerdy toy collector, outrageously embodied by Wayne Knight, who channels his pesky Seinfeld alter ego Newman. The mission brings them up and down an elevator shaft, through the place of their origin a toy store, and face to face, in a wonderful setup, with a toy version of Zurg, delusional and hell-bent on wrecking havoc. The success of Toy Story 2 suggests that these characters could have endless adventures beyond the toy chest; however, they will have to be without Slinky Dog, voiced by Jim Varney, who died the following year.

    'Toys' rescue Woody! 2 times the fun!

    It's even better than the original! Dazzling animation! New characters add more emotion and hilarity! So great! Clever plot! Simply wonderful! Highly Recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    This one is as good as the first one.

    We don't usually do "sequels," as we've very rarely found them to be as good as the initial movie. Toy Story 2, is one of the exceptions to the rule. This is one that has been watched several times.

    Cool movie!!

    This movie is so good!!! I love it!!! I don't know which is better: the original or this one. John Lasseter (the director of Pixar) is an absolute genius to make all these classic movies ("Toy Story", "Finding Nemo", "Monsters, Inc."). They are SO good!!! Most sequels in GENERAL aren't even good, but this one is excellent. I really liked Jessie and Bullseye, they were very good characters. For parents with young children, I just want to tell you this one thing before I finish my review: If Toy Story (the original) scared your kids, you are in for a treat, because the second one isn't even scary!! Only a few mild scenes may frighten your kids (but not as bad as the original): Woody gets a small rip on his arm (but isn't hurt, and it's done in a comical way), a video game scene would be pretty intense for sensitive children, and Woody getting "toy-napped" may be unsettling. But, they really should be okay with this movie. Even for the most sensitive child. The word "moron" and "idiot" is used a few times in the movie. The movie is very appropriate for kids, and if you were uncomfortable with the original, your kids should be fine with this. :-)

    Pixar never lets me down

    I love every single films Pixar has made so far. I am looking forward to see the special teaser of the new movie, Cars on the bonus DVD.
