True Blood chronicles the backwoods Louisiana town of Bon Temps...where vampires have emerged from the coffin, and no longer need humans for their fix. Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) works as a waitress at the rural bar Merlotte's. Though outwardly a typical young woman, she keeps a dangerous secret: she has the ability to hear the thoughts of others. Her situation is further complicated when the bar gets its first vampire patron -- 173-year old Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) -- and the two outsiders are immediately drawn to each other. Delivering the best of what audiences have come to expect from creator and executive producer Alan Ball (American Beauty, Six Feet Under), True Blood is a dark and sexy tale that boldly delves into the heart -- and the neck -- of the Deep South.

I luv the Sookie Stackhouse Series. True Blood is close enough to visualize Sookie and all her funny drama in real life. I am looking forward to watching season 2 on HBO when it starts to get alot more intense. Lafayettes' character is just classic. He is definately my favorite character.

...cuz it isn't, after the first two episodes. All these little side plots take us further into the lives of characters that aren't mentioned much in the books, or at all. At first I was upset about this, being a huge fan of Charlaine Harris' books, and about the time the nonexistent (in the book series) vampire council ordered Bill to make the (nonexistent) Jessica, I hit the roof a little, but.... ...Charlaine Harris herself has total faith in Alan Ball, the cast is nearly spot-on with my own imagination as to what the characters are like (and I agree that Eric's hot - just wish he was warm-blooded!) and if I pretend I never read the books, and watch the show for what it is, I LOVE IT!!!! It's like getting two creative epics for the price of one, and I will certainly be buying this as well as continuing to purchase Charlaine Harris' books - just don't expect them to be anything but very loosely similar and you'll be able to appreciate it.

I loved watching this on HBO. I would DVR it every Sunday, even though it was available on OnDemand by the next day.... LOL. There are definately different twists from the Charlaine Harris books, but that is what I love about it. I am glad there are little added back stories. Alan Ball and HBO did an excellent job of making a series of Dead Until Dark. I can't wait for season 2 to begin next weekend! The teasers on HBO have me anxiously awaiting the first episode of season 2.

Having read the books prior to seeing the series, I am somewhat partial to the stories the way they were written which focused more on plot than on the sex (though there was some good stuff there in the books too). I enjoyed the Tarantino-style of avante-gard movie-making this series took. If you haven't read the books, the series will be even more enjoyable for you, as you won't be distracted or confused when the plots take satellite leaps into directions never seen in the books. I do recommend the HBO series for fun entertainment and humor.

I've seen the first half or so of this series before I moved and was unable to watch the rest. Its wonderful, almost as good as the books (which I also highly recommend, even for those who don't read alot.) I was able to watch the episodes several times, and enjoyed them just as much each time. I'm definetly getting this. However, I do caution those who have young children or who are offended by blatant sexuality. The episodes do very sensual and very close to graphic scenes in a couple of them. I wouldn't suggest you watch the series with you're kids in the room. ;)

I've read all the books that True Blood is based off of and they're some of my favorite. The True Blood series is really awesome too. It's loosely based off the books, but it keeps you guessing with all the differences. The casting of the characters is perfect. Alexander Skarsgard, who plays Eric, is really good (and might I add HOT!) Even though he is not in all the episodes, his presence leaves you wanting more. Season two just started on HBO, and it's even better than the first. If you loved the Sookie Stackhouse books then I would definitely recommend the True Blood series. And I'd recommend it if you've never read the books. Just a word of caution, True Blood is for a more mature audience. It's very sexual and somewhat violent, but that's what makes it great. Team Sookie and Eric!

True Blood season one is a fantastic show about vampires finally coming forward to let society know that they have been with us for a long time. The setting is a quiet town called Bon Temps in Louisiana. Very early on the two main characters are drawn to eachother. Sookie Stackhouse, the smart and sassy waitress is someone that everyone has an interest in, for one reason or another. Bill Compton is the southern gentleman of a vampire that has the town talking. These two forge an instant bond and set tongues wagging with their scenes. Townsfolk may not like their "friendship" but you will be begging for more. The characters are fresh and not your stereotypical small town group. The vampires are sexy and not portrayed as cape wearing night creatures that we are so used to seeing. Each episode ends at a pivotal moment that leaves you aching to see more. I am a Twilight fan but this is a bit different. Call it the vampire series.....for adults only. Oh yes, adults only.

I have always had a fascination with the supernatural, especially vampires. Growing up I read all of the Anne Rice novels and other assorted stories. This television series is raw, emotionally engaging, and well written. I have not had a chance to read the Sookie Srackhouse novels, but they are in my beach bag for my upcoming vacation. And, this show has some of the best sex scenes and overall sexual tension of any show ever!

True Blood is, at it's core, a show that could only exist on the channel that it does. It is not movie material. But the freedom and production values that HBO delivers, as with their other shows, puts it just above everything else on TV. But the plot, effects, and situations...they are not what makes this a fine show. It's the characters, and the actors portraying them that give the depth and emotion that has created a rabid fan base. Though, to be fair, a couple of said characters are a bit shallow, with some of the vampires bordering on the cliche euro-trash variety. The show isnt perfect, but it is engrossing. The pacing of the episodes is rather remarkable, and, like all good scripted shows, the ending is almost always a cliffhanger. My only hesitation with True Blood is its future of the story. I tried reading the books, and it was cringe worthy. The writing was completely flat, and devoid of any of the sarcasm, wit, and sardonic humor which the show exuded so well. But I pressed on...and the story got completely derailed. Let's just say that the relative simplicity of the first season would be thrown out for a completely convuluted, over-the-top, and ultimately cheesy foray into varying forms of mythology, cross country shenanigans, and love...well, love hexagons. I implore the series creators to ditch the structure of the books, and instead forge a new path. The characters are well formed, so there is no need to waste them on a completely garbage string of plot points.

This show is really my favorite new show of 2008 - 2009. I would always make sure that i was ready and watching when each new episode came on, and i was never disappointed. True blood is exciting, intriguing, sexy, fresh and a true great for anybody who has ever been intrigued by the supernatural or at least just a really great love story. Everybody should definitely watch True Blood...

I may be a teenager and I may have watched this series, but I don't know if something this graphic should be advertised on B&N's teen page. As for the series, it's good, although Anna Paquin could stand to be a bit more believable. I would give it a 3.5.

I read the books and they are great so I figured i would check out the show. I liked it. Obviously the show isnt going to be exactly like the books but they were pretty close to the book and i thought the overall story line was good. It definately kept me entertained. I cant wait for the new season to come out!!

What a great series!! I love vampire movies but there are so many that are just plain bad that I tend to always expect for it to be the movie Twilight...aaahhhhh...I don't know, maybe it's me but I just couldn't get into it..sorry Twilighters. True blood is just plain good. After about the 3rd episode you will be glued to your seat just to see what's going to happen.

This series will capture your attention from start to finish. After you play the first episode you have to keep going. This is not just a vampire series it has everything you could ever want out of TV.

Since purchasing Season 1, I've watched the entire set three times....can't get enough of it! The characters are spectacular! Although the series writing veers away from some of the first book, I enjoyed the plots and storylines. I have since purchased all of Charlaine Harris' books in the series. I'm just itchin' to see what Sookie and Bill get into next, as well as the rest of the characters.

I want intrigued by the books. It is great to see it on film. The characters were cast really well. I love Tara. I am not a huge tv watcher but I have become addicted to Sunday night tv. I like the dvds as I get interrupted alot watching tv so now I can go back and see all I have missed at my leisure. I recommend this set.

This show is an original in an environment of reality shows that are scrapping the bottom of the barrel for entertainment. Creative, imaginative, and mysterious all at the same time, True Blood takes the best of the novel series and brings it to life. Great actors, compelling storylines, surprising villians, the battle between what makes good...good and bad...bad, all add together to make this a must-see series.

I absolutely love vampire stories. I have yet to read the books, but I was instantly addicted to this television series. I have recently subscribed to HBO to stay caught up with the new season. Mystery, humor, and sexiness all rolled into one. Move over Edward!

Having True Blood Season 1 on DVD is even better than just seeing it on TV. There are some extras in the set too. This is a great show and I love being able to take a weekend to watch all the episodes back to back. Avid True Blood Fan

True Blood as we most should all know is a spin off of Charlaine Harris's books The Sookie Stackhouse series. The book series of course is a thousand times better I believe but if you just watch the series it is captivating as well. And it is great to see the characters come alive. The books and the series have tons of differences so if you've read the books, you're still in for surprises with this series. All of the other characters in the books have their own scenes and issues. Definitely suggest getting if you are a fan of the book series. Also the 2nd season is already under way on HBO Sunday nights 9 -8central
