Overview

True Blood chronicles the backwoods Louisiana town of Bon Temps...where vampires have emerged from the coffin, and no longer need humans for their fix. Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) works as a waitress at the rural bar Merlotte's. Though outwardly a typical young woman, she keeps a dangerous secret: she has the ability to hear the thoughts of others. Her situation is further complicated when the bar gets its first vampire patron -- 173-year old Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) -- and the two outsiders are immediately drawn to each other. Delivering the best of what audiences have come to expect from creator and executive producer Alan Ball (American Beauty, Six Feet Under), True Blood is a dark and sexy tale that boldly delves into the heart -- and the neck -- of the Deep South.

I luv the Sookie Stackhouse Series. True Blood is close enough to visualize Sookie and all her funny drama in real life. I am looking forward to watching season 2 on HBO when it starts to get alot more intense. Lafayettes' character is just classic. He is definately my favorite character.

...cuz it isn't, after the first two episodes. All these little side plots take us further into the lives of characters that aren't mentioned much in the books, or at all. At first I was upset about this, being a huge fan of Charlaine Harris' books, and about the time the nonexistent (in the book series) vampire council ordered Bill to make the (nonexistent) Jessica, I hit the roof a little, but.... ...Charlaine Harris herself has total faith in Alan Ball, the cast is nearly spot-on with my own imagination as to what the characters are like (and I agree that Eric's hot - just wish he was warm-blooded!) and if I pretend I never read the books, and watch the show for what it is, I LOVE IT!!!! It's like getting two creative epics for the price of one, and I will certainly be buying this as well as continuing to purchase Charlaine Harris' books - just don't expect them to be anything but very loosely similar and you'll be able to appreciate it.

I loved watching this on HBO. I would DVR it every Sunday, even though it was available on OnDemand by the next day.... LOL. There are definately different twists from the Charlaine Harris books, but that is what I love about it. I am glad there are little added back stories. Alan Ball and HBO did an excellent job of making a series of Dead Until Dark. I can't wait for season 2 to begin next weekend! The teasers on HBO have me anxiously awaiting the first episode of season 2.

Having read the books prior to seeing the series, I am somewhat partial to the stories the way they were written which focused more on plot than on the sex (though there was some good stuff there in the books too). I enjoyed the Tarantino-style of avante-gard movie-making this series took. If you haven't read the books, the series will be even more enjoyable for you, as you won't be distracted or confused when the plots take satellite leaps into directions never seen in the books. I do recommend the HBO series for fun entertainment and humor.

I've read all the books that True Blood is based off of and they're some of my favorite. The True Blood series is really awesome too. It's loosely based off the books, but it keeps you guessing with all the differences. The casting of the characters is perfect. Alexander Skarsgard, who plays Eric, is really good (and might I add HOT!) Even though he is not in all the episodes, his presence leaves you wanting more. Season two just started on HBO, and it's even better than the first. If you loved the Sookie Stackhouse books then I would definitely recommend the True Blood series. And I'd recommend it if you've never read the books. Just a word of caution, True Blood is for a more mature audience. It's very sexual and somewhat violent, but that's what makes it great. Team Sookie and Eric!

I've seen the first half or so of this series before I moved and was unable to watch the rest. Its wonderful, almost as good as the books (which I also highly recommend, even for those who don't read alot.) I was able to watch the episodes several times, and enjoyed them just as much each time. I'm definetly getting this. However, I do caution those who have young children or who are offended by blatant sexuality. The episodes do very sensual and very close to graphic scenes in a couple of them. I wouldn't suggest you watch the series with you're kids in the room. ;)

I have always had a fascination with the supernatural, especially vampires. Growing up I read all of the Anne Rice novels and other assorted stories. This television series is raw, emotionally engaging, and well written. I have not had a chance to read the Sookie Srackhouse novels, but they are in my beach bag for my upcoming vacation. And, this show has some of the best sex scenes and overall sexual tension of any show ever!

True Blood season one is a fantastic show about vampires finally coming forward to let society know that they have been with us for a long time. The setting is a quiet town called Bon Temps in Louisiana. Very early on the two main characters are drawn to eachother. Sookie Stackhouse, the smart and sassy waitress is someone that everyone has an interest in, for one reason or another. Bill Compton is the southern gentleman of a vampire that has the town talking. These two forge an instant bond and set tongues wagging with their scenes. Townsfolk may not like their "friendship" but you will be begging for more. The characters are fresh and not your stereotypical small town group. The vampires are sexy and not portrayed as cape wearing night creatures that we are so used to seeing. Each episode ends at a pivotal moment that leaves you aching to see more. I am a Twilight fan but this is a bit different. Call it the vampire series.....for adults only. Oh yes, adults only.

I may be a teenager and I may have watched this series, but I don't know if something this graphic should be advertised on B&N's teen page. As for the series, it's good, although Anna Paquin could stand to be a bit more believable. I would give it a 3.5.

Not many DVD series can hold me all night like this one did. I spent all night going through each episode. I could not break away until there were no more discs to play. Set in the tiny town of Bon Temps, LA, Sookie Stackhouse manages to keep her secret gift of reading others' minds under wraps until a vampire returns to the area after 175 years. He is ruggedly handsome and a bit of an unusual vampire. He wants to mainstream with humans. His name is Bill Compton and he instantly locks onto Sookie as someone different and a major attraction for him. Before long these two become entangled in a strange yet wonderful romance. One that is paralleled in real life between the two actors, Anna Paquin(The Piano, X-Men) and Stephen Moyer(Princess of Thieves). Enter in Sookie's boss and bar owner Sam Merlotte( played by Sam Trammell) who inwardly loves Sookie but cannot have an affair with her because of his own demons, he is a shapeshifter. Eventually, through a series of interesting twists and turns, she finds out. At first upset, she then embraces the idea after he saves her from a madman murderer(a human friend of both). Defiant of vampire laws and edicts, Sookie and Bill become temporarily separated through their forbidden relationship's obstacles. No human or vampire approves of their blossoming love affair. Vampires have a political agenda which promotes having the same rights as humans do and run a public relations campaign on television. Naturally, this creates strains with Louisiana's conservative Christian base. Bill is called away to face a tribunal of Vampire elders. He is punished for saving Sookie from another vampire's attack. Sookie then spends time with Sam who guards her from other predatory vampires and humans whom she has managed to offend through her relationship with Bill. Sookie and Sam become close. The series ends with a cliff-hanger and the viewer just can't wait for season 2.

I HAVE READ THE "SOOKIE STACKHOUSE" SERIES AND LOVED IT! IN MY OPINION, THE BOOK IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN THE MOVIE. WELL... NOT IN THIS CASE!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE HBO SERIES!! I DO NOT HAVE HBO SO, I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE DVDS. MY HUSBAND AND I WATCHED THE ENTIRE SEASON 1 IN ONE WEEKEND!! WE'RE HOOKED AND CAN'T WAIT UNTIL SEASON 2 COMES OUT ON VIDEO!!

True Blood is a great show, because even though it isn't exactly like the book series, it has it similarities and differences. But the differences and changes that it does have are really good, because its kind of boring knowing what's going to happen when you have read the books, but in the show you are in for some goods surprises that make you want to keep watching. I truly recommend the show to anyone who is interested in a good show that has everything you could want, action, violence, romance, and so much more.

What a great series!! I love vampire movies but there are so many that are just plain bad that I tend to always expect for it to be horrible...like the movie Twilight...aaahhhhh...I don't know, maybe it's me but I just couldn't get into it..sorry Twilighters. True blood is just plain good. After about the 3rd episode you will be glued to your seat just to see what's going to happen.

Since purchasing Season 1, I've watched the entire set three times....can't get enough of it! The characters are spectacular! Although the series writing veers away from some of the first book, I enjoyed the plots and storylines. I have since purchased all of Charlaine Harris' books in the series. I'm just itchin' to see what Sookie and Bill get into next, as well as the rest of the characters.

True Blood is a class act. From the very beginning True Blood holds you captivated and spellbound, literally hanging on the edge of your seat. Pure excitement! I wouldn't recommend letting your children watch it, though. Unless, they're at least 18-21. Lots of sex and blood. (After all this is horror, but does a fantastic job of taking our minds off it.) The faint of heart need not apply...lol. The casting & acting is superb! If you enjoy reading Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series, then you're going to love True Blood. Hot and sexy. Sensational! Can't wait for Season 2.

The Sookie Stackhouse novels in my opinion are more intriguing. I am not especially ecstatic about Anna Paquin's portryal of Sookie. I would read the novels by Charlaine Harris first before watching the show because the books are amazing and some things are different in the show that change perspectives and character developments from the book.

THE WRITER CHARLAINE HARRIS OF THE SERIES (SOOKIE STACKHOUSE) INSPIRED THE MAKING OF TRUEBLOOD. I HAVE READ EVERY BOOK THAT WAS AVAILABLE. PLUS I AM HOPING FOR MORE. I HAVE SEEN EVERY EPISODE OF TRUEBLOOD - SEASON 1. NO DISAPPOINTMENT. THE SHOW HAS A NICE EASY FLOW TO IT. AS IF IT WAS A REAL TOWN AND EVERYONE IN IT DOES TRULY EXIST. THE ACTORS FIT THE CHARACTERS ALMOST LIKE THIS IS REALITY AND VAMPIRES, SHAPE SHIFTERS AND FAIRYS DO EXIST. A SIT ON THE END OF YOUR SEAT SOMETIMES, BUT DON'T FORGET TO BREATH EXPERIENCE.

This show is really my favorite new show of 2008 - 2009. I would always make sure that i was ready and watching when each new episode came on, and i was never disappointed. True blood is exciting, intriguing, sexy, fresh and a true great for anybody who has ever been intrigued by the supernatural or at least just a really great love story. Everybody should definitely watch True Blood...

I loved the books and hoped that I would like the TV shows too, but they were rather slow and suprisingly boring compared to the books. The actress that plays Sookie is good and fits the part. but several of the others don't.

I want intrigued by the books. It is great to see it on film. The characters were cast really well. I love Tara. I am not a huge tv watcher but I have become addicted to Sunday night tv. I like the dvds as I get interrupted alot watching tv so now I can go back and see all I have missed at my leisure. I recommend this set.

I read the books and they are great so I figured i would check out the show. I liked it. Obviously the show isnt going to be exactly like the books but they were pretty close to the book and i thought the overall story line was good. It definately kept me entertained. I cant wait for the new season to come out!!
