I luv the Sookie Stackhouse Series. True Blood is close enough to visualize Sookie and all her funny drama in real life. I am looking forward to watching season 2 on HBO when it starts to get alot more intense. Lafayettes' character is just classic. He is definately my favorite character.

    Forget Edward, I want Bill!

I've seen the first half or so of this series before I moved and was unable to watch the rest. Its wonderful, almost as good as the books (which I also highly recommend, even for those who don't read alot.) I was able to watch the episodes several times, and enjoyed them just as much each time. I'm definetly getting this.
However, I do caution those who have young children or who are offended by blatant sexuality. The episodes do very sensual and very close to graphic scenes in a couple of them. I wouldn't suggest you watch the series with you're kids in the room. ;)

Don't Expect It To Be Like The Books....

...cuz it isn't, after the first two episodes. All these little side plots take us further into the lives of characters that aren't mentioned much in the books, or at all. At first I was upset about this, being a huge fan of Charlaine Harris' books, and about the time the nonexistent (in the book series) vampire council ordered Bill to make the (nonexistent) Jessica, I hit the roof a little, but....
...Charlaine Harris herself has total faith in Alan Ball, the cast is nearly spot-on with my own imagination as to what the characters are like (and I agree that Eric's hot - just wish he was warm-blooded!) and if I pretend I never read the books, and watch the show for what it is, I LOVE IT!!!! It's like getting two creative epics for the price of one, and I will certainly be buying this as well as continuing to purchase Charlaine Harris' books - just don't expect them to be anything but very loosely similar and you'll be able to appreciate it.

    I love TrueBlood!

I loved watching this on HBO. I would DVR it every Sunday, even though it was available on OnDemand by the next day.... LOL. There are definately different twists from the Charlaine Harris books, but that is what I love about it. I am glad there are little added back stories. Alan Ball and HBO did an excellent job of making a series of Dead Until Dark. I can't wait for season 2 to begin next weekend! The teasers on HBO have me anxiously awaiting the first episode of season 2.

    The books are much better.

I loved the books and hoped that I would like the TV shows too, but they were rather slow and suprisingly boring compared to the books. The actress that plays Sookie is good and fits the part. but several of the others don't.

Racy HBO Version of the Story

Having read the books prior to seeing the series, I am somewhat partial to the stories the way they were written which focused more on plot than on the sex (though there was some good stuff there in the books too). I enjoyed the Tarantino-style of avante-gard movie-making this series took. If you haven't read the books, the series will be even more enjoyable for you, as you won't be distracted or confused when the plots take satellite leaps into directions never seen in the books. I do recommend the HBO series for fun entertainment and humor.

    Not what I expected.....

I watched this series all in one sitting and I sat with my fast forward button in hand. The storyline with Bill and Sookie was very engaging and I enjoyed that part very much but the gratuitous sex in this show was over the top. I did not like the Jason storyline unless it was the murder mystery part itself. All of his sex scenes were just too much! Anna Paquin as Sookie is still up for debate in my book. I can't imagine this show will ever be able to be aired on another network like SciFi channel without a lot of editing.

    Sublimely decadent

True Blood is, at it's core, a show that could only exist on the channel that it does. It is not movie material. But the freedom and production values that HBO delivers, as with their other shows, puts it just above everything else on TV. But the plot, effects, and situations...they are not what makes this a fine show. It's the characters, and the actors portraying them that give the depth and emotion that has created a rabid fan base. Though, to be fair, a couple of said characters are a bit shallow, with some of the vampires bordering on the cliche euro-trash variety. The show isnt perfect, but it is engrossing. The pacing of the episodes is rather remarkable, and, like all good scripted shows, the ending is almost always a cliffhanger.

My only hesitation with True Blood is its future of the story. I tried reading the books, and it was cringe worthy. The writing was completely flat, and devoid of any of the sarcasm, wit, and sardonic humor which the show exuded so well. But I pressed on...and the story got completely derailed. Let's just say that the relative simplicity of the first season would be thrown out for a completely convuluted, over-the-top, and ultimately cheesy foray into varying forms of mythology, cross country shenanigans, and love...well, love hexagons. I implore the series creators to ditch the structure of the books, and instead forge a new path. The characters are well formed, so there is no need to waste them on a completely garbage string of plot points.

One of the best series ever!

I have always had a fascination with the supernatural, especially vampires. Growing up I read all of the Anne Rice novels and other assorted stories. This television series is raw, emotionally engaging, and well written. I have not had a chance to read the Sookie Srackhouse novels, but they are in my beach bag for my upcoming vacation. And, this show has some of the best sex scenes and overall sexual tension of any show ever!

    True Blood Season 1

True Blood season one is a fantastic show about vampires finally coming forward to let society know that they have been with us for a long time. The setting is a quiet town called Bon Temps in Louisiana. Very early on the two main characters are drawn to eachother. Sookie Stackhouse, the smart and sassy waitress is someone that everyone has an interest in, for one reason or another. Bill Compton is the southern gentleman of a vampire that has the town talking. These two forge an instant bond and set tongues wagging with their scenes. Townsfolk may not like their "friendship" but you will be begging for more. The characters are fresh and not your stereotypical small town group. The vampires are sexy and not portrayed as cape wearing night creatures that we are so used to seeing. Each episode ends at a pivotal moment that leaves you aching to see more. I am a Twilight fan but this is a bit different. Call it the vampire series.....for adults only. Oh yes, adults only.

    Best Show on TV!

I absolutely love vampire stories. I have yet to read the books, but I was instantly addicted to this television series. I have recently subscribed to HBO to stay caught up with the new season. Mystery, humor, and sexiness all rolled into one. Move over Edward!

    Love This Series!!!

I've read all the books that True Blood is based off of and they're some of my favorite. The True Blood series is really awesome too. It's loosely based off the books, but it keeps you guessing with all the differences. The casting of the characters is perfect. Alexander Skarsgard, who plays Eric, is really good (and might I add HOT!) Even though he is not in all the episodes, his presence leaves you wanting more. Season two just started on HBO, and it's even better than the first. If you loved the Sookie Stackhouse books then I would definitely recommend the True Blood series. And I'd recommend it if you've never read the books. Just a word of caution, True Blood is for a more mature audience. It's very sexual and somewhat violent, but that's what makes it great. Team Sookie and Eric!

    this is horrible

i watched one episode. just one. the language was horrible. it is full of too much un-needed sexual conduct and nudity. i think the show would be much better if they just cut all of that out and lessened the foul language.

The 'ole Cliche... love at first, you know

This series provides a refreshing look into vampire culture. The political questions that are raised provide a unique look into the issues of race in America. The series is also exceedingly sexy, fun, and a pure joy to watch. The mythology is well thought out, and clearly building up to something more, that fans will get to explore futher in the next season. The pallet of characters that are created are well rounded and interesting. This is a fantastic choice in a new series!

    Can't Wait!!

I don't have HBO or I would already have this show saved on my DVR. I'm so excited and I can't wait for this to come out in May, and usually if I'm buying a dvd Walmart has the best deal but Barnes & Nobles has the best price on this if you have a memebership.
