Overview

From four-time Academy Award nominee David Lynch comes the complete imaginative and groundbreaking mystery-thriller series Twin Peaks. Created by Lynch and Mark Frost, Twin Peaks tells the story of FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) and his investigation of the murder of a popular local girl, Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). With its cast of memorable characters, stunning cinematography and intriguing plot, Twin Peaks quickly garnered a rabid cult following and made an indelible impact on television history. Airing from April of 1990 to June of 1991, the series was nominated for a total of 17 Emmy awards over the course of its two-season run and also spawned a prequel feature film directed by Lynch called Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, (available separately) which detailed the final days of the ill-fated Laura Palmer. Twin Peaks also stars Lara Flynn Boyle, Sherilyn Fenn, Ray Wise, and a host of eclectic and talented character actors as the strange and mysterious residents of the fictional town of Twin Peaks.

Back in 1990, this tv show was launched on an unsuspecting public. There was never a TV show like this. Fans were riveted by the death of Laura Palmer. Once the mystery was resolved, the true fans stayed till the end. Without this show, series like The X-Files, Lost and Buffy would probably never have found an audience when they did. Having rewatched the whole series a few times, I always find something new. I highly reccomend this to anyone! It is weird, and definitely out there, but that is a part of the appeal. Kyle McLachlan is the best part of the show. His theories are based more often on intuition than hard evidence. This show launched a lot of stars: Kyle, Lara Flynn Boyle, Heather Graham and more!

David Lynch is always entertaining but he certainly needs, and thrives, under the restrictions of broadcast rules. Twin Peaks is proof of it. One of the strangest and most entertaining series ever produced. It's demise came more from the beginning of the first Gulf War than from any loss of interest in the series as the news of the Gulf War constantly delayed and rescheduled its broadcasts during the second year. But what we have is most interesting. Think of it as the town of Bedford Falls (from "Its A Wonderful Life") with a slight infestation of demons.

I bought this because I was a big fan of Twin Peaks when it originally aired. I really enjoyed being able to watch the show again, and I was surprised by how little dated it seemed. The first season is particularly strong--David Lynch was definitely ahead of his time! I was disappointed, though, in the DVD's features, compared with other DVD sets that I have (such as The West Wing or HBO's Rome). The individual episodes were not divided into scenes, so there was no way to find individual scenes within an episode. Plus, there were no descriptions or synopses of episodes. The lack of these features made it difficult for the viewer to find particular favorite moments from the series.

The story of a small town shaken by the discovery of a corpse; one that turns out to be the girl loved by all, Laura Palmer. As the mystery of who killed Laura and what happened to her in her last days unfolds, we are introduced to a multitude of quirky and bizzare characters and places. There's FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper; an obsessive detective whose methods are unusual but typically accurate. Also in the fold are Laura's parents, one of whom may know something more about their daughter's dissapearance. The quirky bunch at the Twin Peaks Sherrif's Office, the Log Lady, Leo, Shelly, Bobby, and many more people populate this bizarre little town. The show, (created by David Lynch, master of the weird) was produced in the early 1990's and ran for only two years before being cut due to low ratings. This is totally understandable... this show is not for all. It requires great amounts of patience and thinking. The show must be watched from start to finish, there is no jumping in. However, if you do watch the whole thing, you will be richly rewarded with a stellar cast, great writing and gorgeous cinematography. There simply is no other show like Twin Peaks and I doubt that there ever will be (the closest I've seen is HBO's Carnivale). It is moving, funny, thoughtful, frightening, strange, and beautiful all at the same time. Do yourself a favor and get this box set. You will not be dissapointed.

I had only ever head about the show 'Twin Peaks,' but had never seen it. I had a little free time this summer, and decided it was the ideal moment to begin my Twin Peaks education. The show did not let me down. It's smart, campy, and creepy. I fell in love with Agent Dale Cooper and the whole wacky bunch. You will too! This set of DVD's is complete and sets you up to have everything you could ever want from Twin Peaks. I recommend it whole heartedly. It is an amazing world to spend your summer in!
