Overview

As the world sinks into a deep crisis and the threat of ultimate destruction looms just over the horizon, the only hope for mankind lies in six superheroes in this animated Marvel feature. The world's most powerful superheroes have all been brought together in hopes of averting disaster, but with Captain America locked frozen in a solid block of ice for over 60 years, the powerful team must struggle to find a leader. As the reluctant superheroes combine their forces to fight for the good of mankind, the sudden emergence of an unexpected opponent from within their own ranks throws the entire mission -- and the fate of mankind -- into chaos.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Jeremy Wheeler
The first animated feature from Marvel and Lionsgate has kept the look and framework of the award-winning Ultimates comic book intact, but is hampered by cheap animation that is two steps below DC's weekly TV shows of its time. Clocking in at 71 minutes, the film is mercilessly short, even if it feels longer than it actually is. The storyline itself has been streamlined, with none of the original's political subtext rearing its head for the younger viewers. Moms and dads might want to take notice of the rating, as the movie earns a PG-13 for action and violence, which equates to some scenes on a World War II battlefield and superhero brawling. The rating leads to an interesting point of why this picture was made in the first place -- it's a bit too hardcore for the youngsters and it certainly won't play that well to most readers who were hoping for more of the grit and, well, quality of the book. With Marvel trumpeting their big-money acquisition that allows them to produce their own films, it would be best if they set the bar at least a little higher than this passable production.

This movie was incredible. I got it in the mail on February 25th and I've seen it about four times. The animation is realistic, the story had some gravity to it and the fight scenes were insane. The battle between the Hulk and the Avengers is one of the best fight scenes ever put on screen!!! This DVD is definitely worth your time and money.

Poor character development, terrible video transfer(images appear pixelated once in a while), so-so animation, and overall a weak story-line. Read the comic it was based on- The Ultimates. It was excellent.
