I was looking forward to this movie being really cool and full of excitement, but it was not at all near my expectations. I was lost from the beginning. First there were humans, then they turned into hemo-somethings, then they were vampires--who did NOT suck blood (come on, we all know that vampires suck blood!), then they were robots who go shattered to pieces...whoever created those robots needs to be fired. Ok. and then this Violet chick comes in with like 10 different colors of hair and clothing, with a different pair of sunglasses to go with her outfits. And whats up with the pieces of paper that fall from the ceiling whenever she shoots somebody??? Dont waste your time or money on this movie. there was no plot, character development, or explanation to anything that was going on. my favorite character was six, because he hardly spoke--or did anything for that matter.

Even if they transformed the film into an 80 minute animation, this silver screen comic book would have been a smash. Unfortunately the plot is lackadaisical and just plain watered down. In the first act the actors displayed enough pep in their parts to give the illusion that something spectacular is gonna take place down the line. By the second act the energy dies and the story totally derails. Except for the signature Wimmer fight sequences, which I thought was well executed. Sounds like some pretty lazy writing, which is a sad thing because Kurt Wimmer usually produces some exciting cerebral scripts. His creation Equilibrium is a perfect example. However Wimmer is pretty well known for his crisp inventive directing, for the which the eye candy in UltraViolet looks just like a graphic novel. Not a horrible movie, but could have been better.

This movie made me laugh... was it supposed to? I don't think so. The entire concept was just so rediculous that one couldn't help but find humor in it. Nothing about this movie was well done.

Speaking in basic terms Ultraviolet is a surreal look into an unusual future, where humans and modified humanoids called Hemophages are at the center of a civil war. What I liked about this film is the sheer creativeness and look of the characters, especially Milla Jovovich's ever changing outfits. The sets and environmental designs gives Ultraviolet a videogame feel. It's weird to understand at first, but somehow the story grows on you. I find Ultraviolet interesting, even though it's no Equallibrium, there is still something appealing about it

I think that people are too hard on this movie. It was good. Maybe not spectacular or perfectly amazing but it was good. I may not be a movie freak but i wasnt disoppointed. Its a futuristic movie get over the hundres of guns that can be stored etc etc. in 20 years who knows where we will be. its just a movie for crying out loud. The fight sequences were amazing at least to me.

If you like a bunch of staged fighting that makes no sense what so ever, then you'll take a liken to "Ultraviolet." Other than that, the film is an ultra disappointment from Kurt Wimmer. The beginning looked so promising, but he had to push the technology and martial arts theme to the extreme. Sure, the movie is based on a comic, but even "Sin City" made things entertaining by being fake yet serious. The film exploits a lot of gadgets, namely flat-based technology. It's an interesting creation, but even if things become flat, no one can walk around and do kung fu with about one hundred guns on person--great idea that can't happen. At least the film doesn't take itself too serious. I think there is a reason why Wimmer eluded to have his own commentary. Even Milla was like, yeah its a movie. Fans of Wimmer's stuff will accept it, but not buy it.

Four years on, Kurt Wimmer, writer/director of Equilibrium has taken another shot at trying to create a Sci-Fi Epic. Unfortunately, instead of taking a step forward from Equilibrium, he has taken a step back. Ultraviolet is the story of Violet (Milla Jovovich), a woman who only has thirty-six hours to live. Violet lives in a world torn apart by a Civil War between the Humans and the Hemophages. Violet is a Hemophage – a disease modified human – and as a result of this disease, she is faster, stronger and her senses are more acute. Humans fear the Hemophages, as despite their abilities, they have a short life span. In Violet’s world, the Humans control and regulate an oppressive regime trying to exterminate this new breed of creatures and forcing them underground. Violet is fighting against this, and the closer she gets to death the more determined she becomes to live! As the movie opens, Violet is infiltrating a human research centre. She has been sent to retrieve a package, which turns out to have a nine-year-old child inside. On realising that the child is wanted dead by both the Humans and the Hemophages, Violet decides to protect him. Yes, I know what you thinking, this plot actually sounds like it could be from a great Sci-fi movie, and you’re right, it could have been. To be honest, most movies based on comic books usually have a great premise, and I do think that Ultraviolet could have been a great film but, unfortunately, something went wrong. It isn’t Milla’s fault she looks great in “Kill Bill-style” outfits that seem to constantly change colour depending on her mood (I want some of those colour changing outfits!) Jovovich suits this genre as she has proved in such films as Fifth Element and Resident Evil. (I just hope that someday she will get a vehicle that will push forward her talent instead of holding it back). Milla does her best in a movie that is never sure where it wants to take its audience or even what sort of world it wants its audience to see. The movie opens by giving us quite a beautiful vision of the future. (It may be a totalitarian regime, but at least it’s picturesque!) The opening scenes have quite a surreal, dream-like quality, which would have been impressive had they carried this throughout the movie. However, we are reminded that this is totally a CGI-enhanced world by constant interruptions of actual, purpose built sets. If you are going to use animation and CGI, that’s fine – but you can’t show us another world that’s completely different from our own and intersect it with scenes that could be seen in any film set in the present day. This lack of consistency constantly disrupts the audience, being pulled into this other world, which makes the story seem unbelievable. Also, one of the prerequisites of an action movie is elaborate, well-choreographed fight scenes. There are many action sequences in Ultraviolet, but they are all very similar. Violet is fighting off a series of masked attackers again and again. It just seems to be the same scene, only the bad guys are wearing different outfits in each battle. All in all, Ultraviolet could have been a great summer film, but too much CGI or, you could argue, not enough- is too distracting for the audience to become fully immersed in the film or the plot. Instead of going to see, it rent The Matrix, or even Equilibrium and hope that Kurt Wimmer will one day be able to improve on Equilibrium, as Equlibrium was a very promising first attempt.

this movie was completly pointless. the plot made no sense and it seemed like a comedy rather than an action movie. the special effects were not that good and it was not in the least bit entertaning. Milla Jovovich is a great actress but this was not a movie for her.

Ultraviolet totally stunk! Milla Jovovich is usually a good enough actress, but when are these filmmakers going to realize that a movie must have a good STORY to be a success. The paper thin plot doesn't even try to make sense and you really don't care if the main characters live or die anyway so it's just a waste of an hour and a half. AWFUL!!!
